It was awkward/dangerous for us to get in and out of the bed too . I had seen some of the trailers have a second step located to the side . It was 12-15" tall and about 8" square. It was stained the same color as the rest of the wood in the trailer and has a carpet on top that matched the existing carpet. I made one out of 3/4" plywood and used wood screws to secure it in place , put the top on and finally the carpet. Worked great. Just an option.
