So I want to ad some shiny diamond plate to the front of my Logan Trojan 2h straight load trailer and also to the fenders. I want to protect the front more than the short strip that is already on the front and I'd like to go to just above the center bow. What gauge or style should I look for and does anyone know a good resource? Can a person install it themselves with just normal hand tools and a power drill and skill saw? Anyone have an idea of what it would cost to do?

this were I got mine. Came in a sheet. I used a tin snip and and an angle grinder with a cutting wheel to cut around the lights etc. It worked great. I used rivets I bought at Home Depot to put it on. The riveter was around $20 for the tool itself. It took about 3 hours on a nice day at the barn. Came out great and looks very nice on the trailer. Total package on my Merhow BP was under $100 for metal, riveter, rivets and cutting wheel for the grinder.

Thanks for the swift and useful replies! I like the idea of adding something that's going to add to my trailer's good looks and protect it at the same time. It also seems to be alot cheaper a project than I thought.

All I can add is the front of my trailer is stainless steel and I park in front of it in my driveway and it is melting my side mirrors. Not sure if the diamond plate will do the same or not? Has any one else had this problem????

I just purchased some diamond plating for my trailer from here http://www.mirageinc.com. It was the most reasonable priced aluminum plating I could find. Aluminum Tread Plate (ATP, Diamond Plate) Gauge .025 Stamped ChromeSpecify Sheet Size: 24" x 96" [+$40.00]It was easy to work with, flexible enough to shape to the front. I am very happy with it.Good luck!

There are two considerations when opting to add a sheet metal covering over another metal. The trailers original sheet metal construction, will determine what type of metal can be added. If it's steel, only steel or stainless can be added, not aluminum. If the body is aluminum, only aluminum or stainless coverings can be added, not steel. The same holds true for the fasteners. They have to be the same as the compatible materials; IE: aluminum or stainless into aluminum, steel or stainless into steel, no aluminum fasteners should be used. If the wrong material is used, a galvanic reaction will occur, which can end up with the destruction of any attaching metals. The second consideration is the sealing of the attaching material around its perimeter. If water is allowed to penetrate between the surfaces and become captured, corrosion breeding will become enhanced. A continuous seal of a quality calking/adhesive will address this issue.
