With all due respect... which side are you on in this, Gard? I find your comment accompanying the link cryptic; don't understand the reference...maybe I'm just being dense? For myself, I find it good news that this yet-another 'nanny' mayor is actually being made to hear that everyone doesn't think his way is the 'only' way...to put it as politely as I can. With sincere regards and interest, olehossgal, AKA Margo, in NM (who has both ridden and driven equines of many descriptions for the better part of the past 72 years)

I'm not on either side and have no reason to be involved. I posted this for those who might be interested in the developments.

Gard, I apologize. I didn't realize that the line about '...top dog....fire hydrant....' was your tag line; took it to be somehow? related to the subject....dummy me! I am an only occasional reader of this forum of late; always did and still do, admire and respect your opinions and advice--don't wish to it to seem otherwise. I have followed various sources re: this subject fairly extensively. Videos of the NYC carriage 'waiting area' show some very nasty, rude, insulting behavior on the part of 'animal rights' protestors, who for the most part clearly know/understand absolutely NOTHING about horses...and of course, there's the issue of another NY mayor who seems to feel it is his right to behave as dictator. I do wonder how we as riders/users of horses in all forms of ridden work and play, would feel if those like DiBlasio and his backers told us that what we were doing was 'inhumane' and that they were determined to dictate our future and that of our horses....?Olehossgal, aka Margo, in NM

I am following the NYC carriage horse matter very closely. The NYC carriage industry is very highly regulated, there is no reason (other than the land developers who want the land the stables occupy) to ban carriage horses. NYC mayor has no problem with police horses who actually do police work in the very same urban environment. I feel it is important to support the carriage horses simply because the radical animal rights people are after all of us and our animals. Just my op

well, life is heating up for those of us who still show (as well as trail ride) our Tennessee Walking Horses. HSUS is pushing Congress hard (and throwing around lots of money) to pass the "Past Act." That is the bill filed by Rep Ed Whitfield of Kentucky written by HSUS (Mrs Whitfield is a senior lobbyist for HSUS) which will require all twh, ssh and racking horses to be shod only upon a prescription from a vet. If Congress and HSUS can do it to us, then look out other horse breeds and sports. TWH and the carriage horses are just the tip of the iceberg. HSUS is determined to end all animal use, ownership and agriculture in the US.
