Warm weather is almost here. Anybody have any dream trips planned? Seems like a long time since Painted Horse posted any pictures from his excursions. I always love to hear about great horse vacations and the neat people we meet along the way. We spent a month in Wyoming last year and had the best time ever. We didn't get to take the horses, but that was kind of nice too. Didn't have to worry about weed-free hay or chores. Just soaked up the peace.

Can't post pictures any more. Something changed on the website and I no longer see the little icons that allowed me to insert a photo.Best I can do any more is post a link to photos that are hosted some place else. Like this.Took a lot of the fun out of posting http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p259/Painted-Horse/2013/IMG_2229...

Awwwwww, am sad that we can't see Painted's beautiful pictures as posted in the past. :-( I've been pretty much gone since mid January and just now noticed that option in gone.

I don't really have anything new planned for this year. I'm building a school that has to be done in mid August. And getting away for more than a weekend, just isn't going to happen until after the school is built.I'll do local rides at home with a weekend ride to Robbers Roost in April and probably Bryce area in May. I'll make long weekends out of Memorial Day, 4th and 24th of July where the holidays and weekends come together. Those will probably be up into the Uinta Wilderness area. But these are all places that I've already posted in the past.

But the vistas in your "neighborhood" rides meke my corn and bean fields around here where I mostly ride look pretty bland by comparison. :-)

I rode out to the canyon overlook close to my home a few days ago. The hawks and eagles ride the thermals rising from the valley to hunt along the rim. I have a favorite boulder where I can sit and look down on the birds of prey and watch them in flight. My horse seems to enjoy the view as well. We can see for a hundred miles from up there.

So that now I can talk with photos again, I'll say that my first trip of the spring will be to Robbers Roost in South Eastern Utah. It's a very remote high desert area. It basically was the Southern Camp for the Wild Bunch. Hole in the Wall in Wyoming, Browns Hole along the Wyoming, Utah, Colorado state line and Robbers Roost in southern Utah. The roost was the most difficult to reach and probably the most inhospitable of the three outlaw camps. But it was the only camp that was never penetrated by the law. photo RobbersRoost201342.jpgThis is the shelf right above the spring in Horseshoe canyon. The camp was just back behind the riders in the photo. The view off the cliff gave the outlaws amble time to leave by the back of camp trail if a possee ever tried to follow the outlaws into camp. photo RobbersRoost201328.jpgThe canyon walls are very steep with only a couple of places that you can descend down into the canyon. With how difficult it was to descend, one man with a rifle could hold off a whole posse photo Dropping-Inn.jpg photo IMG_0958.jpg

If Jon is off walking, I'm not sure that's a trail I'd want to try.

Bob, My old knees are getting stiff. Gotta get off and stretch them every so often. The fellow leading this group suggested getting off and leading. So I followed his suggestion. But after crossing these places, I thought I would ride that.

We've got a trip planned to Colorado for mid-July. We'll be camping at Winding River Horse Camp. This will be the first time pulling this far from home. Most of our trips have been into Missouri and Oklahoma as well as our home state of Arkansas. I've added an extra water tank to the trailer for just horse water, added cameras inside the horse compartment for monitoring horses while on the road. Really looking forward to this trip. If anyone else is there during our stay please feel free to stop by our camp and visit.
