I have a bumper pull trailer that has a load distribution hitch with sway bars. My question is in regards to backing up. Does one have to take off the sway bars in order to back into things such as a camping spot, driveway, etc.?

I had one trailer with sway bars years ago and never took the sway bars off while towing- either forwards or backwards. You should be able to back just fine with them on!

If you are speaking of the weight distribution hitch bars, yes you can drive anywhere and anyhow with them. If you have a true anti-sway device that you use, they typically clearly state to release tension on them before extreme turning or backing. If doing a lot of twisting around, I'd remove it rather than just loosen it.
