We've had our 2 1/2 H Zephyr trailer for almost 20 years now. It has served us well but I think it is about time for a new one. Our young girls are starting to show and I'd love to buy a 3 H. In researching dealers inventories online, I've noticed that many of the trailers have the dressing room door on the driver's side now.
Is there some specific reason for the change that I am missing that makes this more desirable? Are there definite pros vs. cons to this set up? Or, is it one of those "it's just the way the manufacturer made it" type of deals and it really doesn't matter which side it is on? Sorry if this is a silly question, but i'm just curious why they would change it....what have i been missing out on all of these years.

I don't know if there is a reason or not but there is no real pro or con to the DR on the drivers side. I know there are some who can dream up all sorts of scenarios of some kind of emergency that would make it safer..but really to me its just another "step up vs ramp" issue- preference.

if you have a slant load the driver side wall will be shorter, hence you "waste" a shorter wall with a door and can have all sorts of stuff on the big wall. The door on the long wall, however, allows you to have a swing out saddle rack.

Thank you all for sharing your ideas. They all make sense and it seems it is just a preference thing - and more usable wall space, and more convenient to the driver. As we continue this search for a new trailer, and try to compare the different brands and options, I'm sure I'll have more questions for you experts. Thanks again.

I have had both and I by far prefer the door on the drivers side. It makes for much better space for camping or if you want to add a living area later.( because the long wall is opposite you this way) I now have the door on the passenger side and I hate it. It makes my shortwall on the far side which does not at all make it easy to later add living amenities to.

My LQ door is on the drivers side and I love it! While looking at different trailers we are finding its hard to find another one unless you special order.

We have been looking for one on the drivers side for all reasons listed. Looks like we will go with Featherlite. If you order it with 52" DR you can get it put on driver side. By the way I am talking about a Bumper Pull.
