It will depend upon how much noise the public makes about the horses' treatment.

I have watched some roundups and at best they are bad.  The National Park System band people from watching.  I know we have too many wild horses but they are mis-managed.  Expect more of the same.

Just to stir things up. These thoughts ran through my head, I do not know where they came from - maybe from seeing where the horses are kept after they are taken off "free range" (a whole topic in it of itself) anyway I thought to myself they have Elk Hunts, Moose Hunts, Deer Hunts, Goat Hunts all beautiful creatures and the hunters I know eat the meat. I am just saying if I were a Horse I would rather be shot with one quick bullet than be housed till my death in one of those tiny, fly infested, shit filled pens. That is what ran through my head.

There are a lot of folks that eat deer and elk and find the meat very tasty.  For some reason, most americans turn up their nose at horse.  I understand that it is a good meat to eat. But too many of us have had attachments to horses to comfortable eat them.

Couple that with the lack of any trophy. With a deer, elk, moose, Bighorn sheep etc we get a nice set of horns to mount and put up over the fireplace. I just can't get to excited about a horse head over the fireplace.

The horse lovers of America have gotten the laws passed, So that it is illegal to harass wild horses. I'm required to keep my distance from mustangs that I encounter while out in the desert. Can't chase them, Ranchers are not supposed to herd them.  The people who live in the city have gotten the laws pass and love to see the pictures of the mustangs. The ranchers who live where the mustangs live, have to put up with the restriction and tolerate them. So there is always two sides to the issue.

Tee-Totally agree with you Painted Horse, I have had eaten quite abit of wild game but never have tried or have known that I have eaten horse meat. Not to say someone didn't feed it to me. I just couldn't get past those big brown eyes of my ole buddy, I do think that piece of meat would be the hardest I ever chewed never less attempted to swallow.

From watching the food shows, horse meat is quite tasty. Many more people in Europe (WW 2) would have starved to death but for the horse meat. The USA is the only country in the world that outlaws horse meat. According to the nutritional experts, horse meat is very high in protein and very low in bad cholesterol.

What I do not understand is why people feel they have the right to dictate to me what I eat. Reminds me of the movie "Soylent Green."

I think you better check your facts again...  On NOV 30 2011 the USA once again approved horse meat for sale after a 5 year ban...
