Update on the mare with eye scratch.  8 weeks later I can say it is finally heeled.  Her eye looks normal except for a small white area you have to look hard to see, vet says it may never go away.  Her vision doesn't seem to be impared at all.  It did take all of 5 to 6 weeks for the clear tearing to completely go away then another week or two after that before she held the eye lid normal - but the scratch was right at about the level where the eye lid rests normal.  I did keep a fly mask on her during windy and sunny days.  So if you are ever in this situation know it takes time to heal.  Her's was a small scrap the size of a grain of rice and looked about the thickness of a fingernail so I imagine a bigger ulcer could take longer.

Thank God! Glad it had a better outcome than my horse did who went blind.
