I bought a used 2005 Keifer 3 horse slant and when I run my running lights with the truck lights they will work for a few days, sometimes longer before I blow a 20 amp fuse, and my electric brakes work off and on but mostly off. I have changed that fuse about 4 times all summer and this last time the lights have been working for the last 3 weeks but now the brakes don't work at all. I tow with a 2010 Ford F-150. I had the wires in the plug checked and all is well there. My brake lights and turn signals are ok all the time. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I would have to assume that somewhere there is a bare wire.   Makes random contact with the frame and shorts the system..   These problems can be frusterating to find.

Have you checked the wiring in both the plug and the receptacle? Have you checked the grounding of the trailer wires where they are attached to the frame? Sometime under the ring terminals, between the bolt head and frame, you will find corrosion and the resulting poor contact.

If all the wiring is correctly placed, there are no single strands crossing from one pin to another, and you can't find any wiring insulation worn or broken, I would suggest you apply some dielectric grease to the pins of the plugs. Insert and remove the plug several times. If you had any bad contacts caused by a corroded pin or socket, the grease usually restores them to working order.

Thank you Gard, I will check and try all these suggestions and hopefully find the problem area.
