Barrett is a customer trailer manufacture. I understand they mostly built large livestock trailers for semi's.  But they did build custom gooseneck trailers to the design specs of smaller designers who wanted trailers built, but didn't have a manufacturing plant. Such as Nichols where the trailer has the Label,  Nochols by Barrett painted across the front of the trailer.

I have two friends that have purchased the Nichols trailers. They are extremely well built heavy duty trailers.

It would be un-true to say all Barretts of of equal quality, Since Barrett built each of these custom trailers to the specs of the designer who placed the order. But in general I believe they leaned toward the heavy duty side of manufacturing because of their back ground in semi trailer construction. If the trailer is the size and configuration of what you need, I'd definitely consider it. But understand that the parts on the trailer may not be the same easy to find parts that your local RV trailer store carries.

I actually have a Barrett trailer.  Since we were in the trucking business, we knew about the livestock trailers.  The best you could buy in our opinion in a pot or livestock trailer.

The Barrett horse trailers were made in Purcell.  You can still call there and get some parts if you want.  The customer service is fantastic.  You can also get standard parts anywhere.  I had to replace a tie ring and bought it off Ebay.

I would not hesitate to buy one.  As with any purchase, you should examine it and make your own decision.

Thank y'all for the info! Since Barrett made for other designers, I have another question. When I looked at the photos of the trailer, it had Barrett on the nose with the circle B as well but it also had another word under that. I couldn't read the whole word but it was like Opit?? Does anyone know what the word is or who designer it may?

I don't know. I know that the nose of mine is Barrett and it has the circle B on the fenders.  Can you send me a picture of it?  It just might be the style.

Rick Opitz was the dealer at the time.  The dealership was on Reno Ave. right across from the OK State Fairgrounds in Oklahoma City, OK.

As far as I know, Rick has been out of the horse trailer business for a number of years.

I have a 38', 2000 Barrett LQ that I bought brand new in '01 and I use it 5 days a week (68k hauling miles so far).  The others are right, it's a top of the line trailer compared only to a Bloomer.  I bought it because the dealer told me in all the years of selling trailers they have NEVER had to replace the floor in a Barrett, and he's right.  Fleatherlite had a period of time that their floors failed miserably and since I haul so much I don't clean or hose out the horse compartment because they are getting back in tomorrow.  Barrett however didn't do the LQ conversions so any additional names on the trailer are for the dealer and possibly the LQ finisher.  You won't be sorry if you buy it.
