After the fire was extinguished, they backed the tractor back under ther trailer and headed on to N.Y., Ky. or somewhere..... Don't know if the horses were visible to the public through the holes burnt through the sides of the trailer.... Was told that one of the drivers was pretty much a "chain smoker", She could have been smoking inside the trailer at they're last stop and droped a spark.... You'll never know for sure.

How does a trailer burn and not have the coupler, wiring, hoses, and tires etc. damaged?

Most all of wires and plumbing runs along the steel frame rails underneath the trailer. The trailer was pretty much gutted but the structural integrity was no compromised. The trailer was within 5 miles of the nearest fire station (straight shot up the interstate) and there's someone at the station pretty much all the time. The materials inside the trailer was what was on fire. Hay, shavings, hair, etc. not so much the trailer itself.... This is not your average aluminum horse trailer.  http://www.lorrainehorsetrans.com/

It can happen with the cigarette thrown in the trailer window.  I was at a vet's farm where he was caring for a burnt horse.  The horse had been on it's way home when a cigarette was thrown and got inside the stock trailer.  Causing the straw to catch fire and burnt the horse.  You could smell the poor fellow as you walked past his stall.  We have been keeping our trailer windows up on the road side and letting the other side down.  Such a sad tragedy.
