I have a 96 Wrangler 2 horse GN. The inside/cargo lights/fan for horses, have always drawn off the battery under the GN. It does not draw from the truck. The battery has 2 wires on the positive (blue) and one on the neg. There is a small fuse on one or two of the positives. I didn't remove the electrical tape.

With that everything was fine until I changed out some bulky fan on top with a nice Fan tastic fan. I connected the two wires from the previous fan and that went off without a hitch. Now I don't have my lights, I didn't do anything else. Any idea why?

I've briefly heard that you can have your lights run off your truck then switch it to battery. How can I do this? I am almost sure that the wire from the 7 connector is wired and running to the battery on the trailer. Does this sound right?

Thank you!

You might have accidently shorted the circuit serving the lights.  Check all the fuses.

I did disconnect the battery when I installed the fan, hoping to avoid a problem...and the directions told me too. hee

Tonite I checked the only fuse I have which is on the battery, it looked ok but maybe I will go out again and see if I can replace it . I don't have a fuse panel. I thought I might have drilled into a wire and have taken some of the ceiling down to check and that's ok too. Well the wire is ok..the ceiling now..is not. Scream now or later...There was a run on blue wiring when they made this puppy. Makes it easy to trace things. NOT NOT NOT.

Thanks for the input!!!!!!!!

Okay... so you did disconnect the battery.  Do the easy things first.  Recheck the batterry connections.  You may have broken a wire getting it off the battery terminal.  A volt meter or test light makes trouble shooting infinitely easier.   Ya can't see if electricity is in a wire until you release the smoke.

Great point. Will check in the am. Old trailer...old wires. Fuse was ok..I changed it anyway. I am wondering if one of the positive wires goes to the fan and the other to the lights ???

Thank you.

If I were wiring a trailer, I would have separate circuits to fans and lights. So yes... maybe a wire to the fan and another wire to the light switch. Can you check to see if you have power to the light switch.  Then you can further check for power at each light.  They may have failed coincidently.

I must have broken my test light. It worked this morning while checking the front connections but later today it didn't work. So I ripped up a few things trying to get a look at what is going on here. Blue wire #1 goes from the trailer connector to the positive terminal. IS THIS SUPPOSE TO BE CHARGING MY BATTERY? I had power from the battery to my trailer connector. Is that ok?

Blue fused wire #2 goes from the positive terminal into the framing tubes. I know the vent fan works but nothing else is and it's the only hot wire going into the trailer for lights.

This trailer grounded off the ball since I had gotten it. This spring I grounded to the frame on the gooseneck coming from the trailer connector and that helped out the tail/brake lights. My next question is...where should I ground the Negative battery wire. The wire I have goes into the frame tube and then..it gets real ugly.

Thank you.

Since the battery didn't charge from the truck before... I'd say the truck wiring to the connector isn't matching up.  IF the truck and trailer were wired correctly... Then yes the truck could charge the trailer battery when the engine is running.   It is not working so leave it alone for now. Fix the lights first.

You may have pulled the light wire apart when you were working on the fan connections since it sounds like there is a single circuit for lights and fan.

The trailer's negative battery terminal should be grounded to the trailer frame.  Just like the trailer connector ground is.  Pick a solid part that is welded to the frame.  Grind the paint off a spot and bolt the negative battery cable to the bare spot.  Cover the connection with electrical grease or just paint it to keep it from rusting.

Get a new test light or fix the old light, then you can trace the light circuit.
