Do you guys have any suggestions on getting a horses mane and tail white???Over the yrs I have tried all kinds of shampoos on my horses mane and its still a little yellow. I have read that once it gets that way its mostly stained shes nine. My husband has a 2 year old palomino that I would like to try and get her mane and tail white.

I don't even try my stupid palomino mare doesn't lift her tail up enough when she pees. She pees on the last 1/3 of tail ever time. When we bought her as a long yearling she was kept in a stall and got bath weekly. Her mane and tail were nice and white, now she lives out side 24/7.

I have two products that I really like; one is Lucky Braid and the other is Cowboy Magic. They have whitening products as well as shampoos. The Lucky Braid says you can rinse it out or wrap the wet tail....wrap the wet tail. It makes a world of difference.

We have two palomino geldings who think that rolling in the mud and then apparently taking a good constitution without raising their tails is the closest thing to Nirvana. (I swear they know they are aggravating the hand that feeds 'em just to get their jollies.) Lay in a stock of "silver" shampoo, e.g. Jhirmack Silver Brightening Shampoo, which is less than $4.00 at Walgreens, and admire how sparkling their mane and tales can be. . .until you let 'em back out and they decide to do their encore impression of warthogs rolling in the mud.

My SSH gelding's white mane is ingrediably long - way way past his neck. it just keeps on growing! I found dandruff shampoo (can be CVS, Target brands) works great on whitening as well as keeping away the dandruff, itcheys, etc. He actually keeps it pretty clean, but I do have to wash it at least once a week to every 10 days. If I really want to get it white, I use the purple shampoo for greys.

I also braid it as it's just too hot during the summer for him. His tail is only white in the first section, then turns to black, so that's easy.

Thanks for all your suggestions...Flummoxed I went to walgreens and got the Jhirmack but I also got some Mrs Stewart from the laundrey aisle at krogers. I washed with the shampoo and used Mrs Stewart as a final rinse. (u only use just a few drops directions on the bottle) I am very happy with the results. I did the palomino's tail and mane, it looked so good I decided to try it on my mares mane. I think it did better than anything I have ever tryed!!!

Penejo, thanks for the tip on Mrs Stewart's. Think I'll try some of that. I'll let you know how it works on our lil' darlin' equines who think they're big porcines.

The laundry bluing agents are very drying on horse's manes and tails, and, the drier the hair, the more dirt it attracts.Go to the Lucky Braids website and read all of her grooming tips,it is excellent information. And no I don't work for them.

crowleysridegirl-glad to hear about their website. Am coming back to showing after several years off and had been unable to find them in any of my catalogs.

I've had good luck with EZ-All. I have a paint horse that is about 70% white who thinks he needs to be mud colored. His mane is white and between the shampoo and the mane and tail shampoo, his mane turns out nice and white with little effort.
