If the truck goes into regen 2 miles before you have to turn it off, once you start going again, shouldn't it need to finish the regen it had just started? Mine actually went longer between regens after this happened. The truck does have the ford recoder on it but we filled all the memory up in it in the first 20 minutes of towing out of the hills! So, that didn't get recorded. But, I think we got them some good stuff. We'll see. It goes back in the shop today for the 9th time!
Oh, I have been told by the AR attorney generals office, that the F 450 does NOT qualify for the lemon law due to weight! That was never disclosed at purchase! Plus, they gave us a lemon law book with the truck!

Wow Did you buy it used? Mine has been pretty good.Much better than my F350 6.4. I am getting ready to trade it off though. My friend had one the caught fire towing her Bloomer.
I couldnt begin to explain when or how regen comes up. Sometimes I go into regen 5x a trip some times 2. There is really no pattern.

Nope, once you turn the truck off that kills the regen, therfor when restarted and the truck goes into regen the next time it will last longer because the sensors are telling the computer that the system still needs cleaning. I think your AG might need to look alittle closer to the fine print, the 450's and 550's are all cover under the buy back policy, however Ford has set some really HIGH guildlines that cars and trucks must meet before ANYTHING is done. One thing I know for sure it has to be the SAME EXACT item 3 or 4 times within so many miles and after so much money has been spent trying to repair that item.
That is what makes the DPF delete kit so nice, NO MORE REGEN, better fuel mileage, much better performance.......

Picked the Ford up today. Spent 2 hours in a meeting with the service manager, service engineer, & diesel mechanic. They say the problem in the hills is a combination of the 4.88 gear, the auto tranny and the trottle being depressed too hard when the truck is in regen.
Duh....you push the gas to go uphill!
They think the dpf delete may be our best option. I can't believe they actually gave me the website info and the directions to the place that can hook a sister up!

There are a few dealers around who will install DPF removal kits and not void the warranty. I figure they know their customers are going to do it, so they might as well do it for them. I'm sure those dealers though are taking some risk if Ford finds out and the dealer is charging related warranty work to Ford.
If you're going to delete the DPF, some very thorough users have evaluated a number of them and it boils down to "you get what you pay for". Not so much in the pipe that replaces the DPF, but the tuning system. The primo option is a Spartan tuner, and it runs well over a grand.

Go to www.powerstroke.org and you will find a section just for 2008 to 2010 6.4L trucks. H&S Perfromance and Spartan both build a DPF delete kit, I am sure there is more but these 2 have been in it longer and seem to have more knowlege about this stuff.

I have had no luck finding anyone locally that can install the tuner and delete kit. Anybody know of any reliable speed shops doing this kind of install on a regular basis? Can travel to get it done.

I really hope I don't run into these issues with our new 2010 Ram 3500. I will do a DPF and EGR delete if I have to but I would prefer to leave it alone (not to mention who wants to have to spend $500+ on a new truck to make it run right! Picking ours up on Monday...
I believe both tuners offer a stock setting if you just want a little more power and better fuel mileage. However on my Dodge I have found the the 120hp setting offers me better mileage than the stock or 60hp setting offers. This just something you will have to try and find out what works best for you.

One of the reasons I spent the money on my Dodge was when I checked the oil at 5-k miles it was already black. And after weeks of reading I figured that I wanted my truck to last longer, run better and wanted better fuel mileage, so at 20-k miles I did the full delete kit with programmer and never looked back. Now with 46-k miles I change my oil ever 6-k miles and the oil is still pretty clean. Not black at all.
So in my opinion if you want your new truck to last longer, run better and get better fuel mileage then these kits are a must!
So far out of all of the DPF equiped vehicles GM has the best set up for now.
I agree with you on having to spend money to make these trucks run like they should, but like I said in an earlier post we can thank the EPA for this.

Hogtown.....I would love to get a delete kit and tuner on my Ford, but I am having a devil of a time finding someone that can actually do it! I was told about a place in TX called something thunder, may possibly be a speed shop. I can buy them off the internet, but I need mine installed! Meanwhile, am truck shopping.......

the delete kits on the fords are not to bad to install. the hardest part is changing the exhaust. on the 6.4 you do not have to drill and tap the exhaust manifold because there is already a factory sensor there that the tuner will read. so if you know anyone with some basic mechanical skills to give you a hand removing the exhaust and sensors i would give it a shot, and i have heard that spraying the sensors with penetrating oil a day in advance will help with removal so you do not damage them. as soon as i sell my motorcycle i am deleteing my dpf and going with the sct loaded with custom tunes from innovative diesel. also if you are not planning on running much over 500rwhp the stock air box will be fine. good luck you will have one happy truck once you do it!
