This has been a long cold winter. Horses have been stalled a lot. They're making holes where they pee. What's the best thing to use to fill them in? I read somwhere sand and lime stone. Any thoughts on that? Floors are just the dirt, we use sawdust or straw for bedding. No mats.
Thanks everyone for your imput.

I have clay floors in my stalls and just fill the holes with more clay, tamped in well, every few years. I have found that you want to wet the existing floor very well before adding new dirt so it joins with the old.

I had this problem also. I tried the putting the clay and so on back in, did not work, tried the 3/4rubber stall mats over the dirt, did not work, finally I got tire if it and cemeted them out with the 3/4 stall mats on top it worked great and was very easy to clean the stalls with any bedding you put into the stall. I even foaled on these no problems at all.

I put my mares that are in foal in when their time is close. I have had mares foal 3 weeks early on me so I do not take a chance no more. I can not have a colt born in the cold and snow. I just won't let it happen.
