On an earlier post, I had asked about adding an air unit to a fiberglass top on a Merhow trailer, but people seem to think that Merhow never made fiberglass tops or noses on thier trailers. (I have not had a chance to call them, but will tomorrow)  I have posted a picture from the inside of the trailer and as you can see, for some reason the frame in the nose area is showing, but the edges seemed to be finished as if it was made that way.  As far as the air unit, it is framed for it because there is a vent.

Any opinions on what gives? Do you think that maybe the nose was damaged at one point and a fiberglass nose piece was added??? The picture came from the seller, so it's not a real closeup, but I wanted to hear what people's thoughts were.

I'm just a little concerned because tomorrow I was going to go to the bank to finance it. I really like the trailer, but if it has had damage in the past, I should probably pass on it. There are no dings, dents or any type of visible damage that I can see.

Please let me know your opinions.

I hope this link works.  http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd153/lazydayhorsefarm/Merhownosepiece.jpg

The curved nose cap may be fiberglass, the rest of the skin should be aluminum or on older models, steel. Does yours look like this from the front with the recessed marker lights? What year model is your trailer?

Yes, it looks just like that with the recessed marker lights. It's a 2001 verylite all aluminum model.

What is the thinking behind the fiberglass nose cap???

The only part that is fiberglass should be that nose cap. That was the way they built them during that time line, probably saved them some money rather than cutting, stretching, welding, casting aluminum pieces to make those front radius's visually appealing. (Merhow probably had these fiberglass upper nose cap pieces built by another outside contractor).  The area that your vent is located should be aluminum or steel.... Call Merhow, give them your trailer serial number and get they're blessing before you go any further. I'm just going on what I've seen photos of and read about... Never seen one in person. Merhow's not very popular in this area.
