What year model F250? 4x4, 2x4, crew cab, super cab? What's the GVWR of the F250? It it a Gas V8, V10, Diesel 7.3, 6.0, 6.4? Manual, automatic transmision? What does the trailer weigh loaded with all your gear and horses, ready to travel? What's the pin weight of the loaded trailer? What's the GVWR of the trailer?

Just for the sake of discussion. Lets assume it's a new 2010 F250. 70% of all new Ford pickups are Crewcabs. So I'll assume that and most all new trucks are diesel.
F250 Crewcab with the diesel engine can tow 12,500 lbs. and can carry in the bed 1,543 lbs.
When I had my 4H 8' LQ loaded it was about 16,000lbs and had 3200lbs on the pin
So a quick guess based on those assumptions and I'd say you will not be close with that truck.
As rentento asked. You need more specific information to make a a decision vs a guess.

My opinion if you have a FORD with the 6.0 or 6.4 engine I would say NO! I used a 2006 F-350 over the weekend to haul my Sundowner 10'SW 3 horse and it was a DOG towing and a squating dog as well!
Go test drive a Dodge and you will see what I am talking about the Ford being a DOG while loaded! Unless you are planing to upgrade your egr system and use a programmer for added power, you will be like a grandmother on a Sunday drive while towing.

Yes, need more truck details. But assuming it is a c/c diesel, I have many friends pulling around a 10' 3H LQ and they are quite happy with the performance. Most have added air bags or such, but most of the 1 ton folks have also.

We have two 1 tons..one dually(05) one crew cab short box(04) both are diesels...both I have used to pull our 4 horse featherlite w/ a 8ft shortwall living quarter and they both worked fine. No problem with power thats for sure.

this truck is a 99, 7.3 diesel, automatic, crew cab, 65K miles, in excellent condition, has never pulled a load, F250 super duty 3/4 ton 2 wheel drive. I haven't bought a trailer yet, just shopping for what would be reasonable to tow for this setup. I would like to get an alum. 2 or 3 horse with living quarters. Really appreciate your advice.

You won't lack for power, the 7.3 PS is an excellent towing motor. The pin weight will be the issue, and will limit the length of the LQ that you can purchase. You can improve the truck's ride quality under a load with the Timbrens, but you still can't exceed the load capacity of the rear axle.
An 8' LQ and a three horse GN will approach your truck's weight limitations. That said, if you compare various trailer brands and conversions, you will find many variables in the weights by various manufacturers, whilst all having those same specifications. The total weights could vary by as much as a ton, depending on the construction and installed optional equipment.
You can have what you wish for, but you will have to be selective and choose the correct combination.

I don't know if this will help but I can give you a few numbers. Have a 9' LQ 3horse 7'x7' Featherlite that weighs in at 7740# empty with 2000 on the pin. Used to have a same type Featherlite that was 9' LQ 4horse 8'x8' and it weighed 12000# empty and had about 2500 on the pin if I remember right. The LQ's were both factory and identical expect for the size difference. It really surprised me how much weight differnce there was between the two. The 4 horse was equipped with onboard generator and had a bigger hay rack, more water cap. All of those things add up to more weight. BTW I pulled them with a 99 Ford 350 diesel with Banks chip and exhaust and it did just fine. Best thing to do is get the weight of the trailer and start figuring from there.

I have a 2000 Elite, 3H, 8' SW LQ and loaded with 3 horses, 7 bales of hay in the hay rack, 40 gallons of fresh water and holding tanks empty my scale ticket weight was right around 14,200lbs.
The GVWR on the data plate of the trailer is 14,950lbs. This may or may not give you an idea. I would weigh the trailer long before I took anyone's word on actual trailer weights, thats the only for sure way to know.

I had a 4horse Elite (2005) with 11' wall and I could pull it just fine with the 2500('03) duramax. It stopped ok just pay attention. It did not pull as good, it didnt feel as good, and it didnt stop as good as it did with the 3500('03/'05) duramax. The 1 ton had to go to the shop and I had to continue pulling so I used it. I didnt like running 75 or better just because it felt a little squirly and also I kept thinking about one tire in the rear vs. two. The dually was much more stable only difference.
If I liked the trailer I wouldnt let that stop me.

I would think that the 3/4 ton would work fine as the Ford at 250 & 350 all use the same components. Some here will say otherwise but I have hauled trailers quite a bit bigger than that and 10+ tons of hay without any real issues. Do buy airbags without a doubt the best towing investment going.
As for those that are going to grown about legal weights etc, that is more a warranty / legality issue with the states and DOT out west ( NV & CA ) they will license a one ton truck to 37K for a larger registration fee.
I have run allover large western ranges with a 19K 4 horse LQ on the truck without any real issues. The 7.3 and the 6.0 fords will run with the best of them if you keep them tuned and are not afraid to put your foot in it, the powerstroke motors rev a lot more like a gasoline motor than the cummins do so don't be afraid to stand on it when you need to move.
