I have just purchased a new trailer and am wanting to build the living quarters myself. What I want to know is what types of materials are out there to use on the walls besides regular wood paneling.

I used good-one-side plywood on my last trailer. All the wallboard I was able to find at local stores didn't look sturdy enough for my trailer, and I was concerned that since those particular samples were just a pressed cardboard type, they might swell with humidity. I think I'll use the plywood again, since it worked so well last time, but I'm debating how to cover it - wall paper, paintable paper, or fabric.

Eugene,
I used Knotty Pine T&G end matched boards on mine. I also used Hulliner material over the bed area. Heres a link to a photo album of my LQ project. PM me with any questions you have and I'll be glad to try to answer them.
The best info I got on doing my living quarters was while the shell is empty use some of the blue tape that is used to mask off areas for painting. Lay out all the measurements of everything that will be going in there and tape it off on the floor, walls, cieling. This way you can get a good look at the size of things and do your adjusting before you start cutting boards.
I made several changes at this stage of the project.

Thanks for the info. I have been trying to locate the same type of material used in RVs and campers but haven't had much luck. One RV dealer said he might be able to order it but would be rather expensive and shipping could be high. I have considered using luan board and covering with a good vinyl wallpaper.I am not sure how well this would hold up to the heat, cold and moisture. Any advice or comments would be helpful.

My first lq was a diy. The people had used luan board and contact paper in it. Well It didn't look bad but over time it started to peel away from the board. My new LQ has paneling in it.

I have used 1/2 MDO(sign board) for walls then spackle the seams and wallpaper just l;ike a house with no issues/peeling. This will add some weight to the trailer. MDO is approx 38lbs. per sheet heavier than Luan, but you will save a little weight by not having to frame up the walls. I figured a 10' shortwall would be about 400lbs. heavier doing it this way. One real advantage to using 1/2" sheets is the cabinet installation is much easier do to having a good flat wall to install on and being able to sens a screw in anywhere you choose. Here are a couple of pictures of the wallpapered trailers and the last picture is of a trailer with soft walls, that seems to be what everyone wants nowadays.

What are the dimensions for your tub/toilet pan? That looks like about what I am looking at for mine. Did you get a low profile toilet to go on there also? I have a Trails West with 5' dressing room that I am about to really start rolling on.
The toliet is not a low profile I just used the one I already had. If you have to buy a new one I would go with the low profile. Jazzsales has alot of stuff for the DIY living quarters project. I also got my lights there. The pocket door there at my bathroom really frees up space instead of a door that has to swing out. Your 5' short wall should work out fine mine is actually 5'6".
Good luck with your project and feel free to ask me any questions I'll be glad to help if I can.
