Does anyone know:   Can you trade down your trailer?   I have a 2007 3 horse Elite, LQ, very nice.   Don't need that much trailer anymore.   Would a dealer trade you down for, say, a 2 horse bumper?

Yes, most dealers are just like car dealers.  However you can not expect to get retail out of your trade in.

he dealer will want to discount the value of your trailer to offset the excess money he will expend to bring in a more expensive trailer. He will weigh how quickly he can move your trailer and make a decision about how much profit he can earn with it vs putting that same money into his normal inventory.  It's all a trade off revolving around his available credit.

When I traded down I sold mine outright and then shopped for a replacement. You are not then getting wholesale on your trade and paying retail for the other. You have much more to choose from then when going to purchase.

I tried to sell it a few months ago.   The economy is so bad, I guess is why it didn't sell.   not even one call or email on it.   But I am going to try again before I try trading it.   thanks!

Selling out right is the best way most of the time.  However depending on what you are trading in, the dealer may actually have someone looking for what you have so inturn he might give a little more because he could actually move 2 trailers in lue of 1!  But on the other hand if you have something that is setting on every lot in town, you will get WAY less money.

Then you were priced high or have something undesirable. I sold a trailer in July and could have sold it several times over. Dealer was going to give me 7K trade on a 25K trailer for it and I sold it for 11K to 1st person to look at it and had a waiting list of 3 if the deal fell through. People were wanting it  from as far as 12 hours away

, I guess I missed something.. If I had a dealer offer 7-k on a 25-k trailer, I darn sure would not let it go for 11-k....  Unless we actually did not have a 25-k trailer to start with.

Ok, but go re-read the post, it could go either way!

Dealer was going to give me 7K trade on a 25K trailer for it and I sold it for 11K.

The way I looked at it, you was saying the dealer offered you 7-k on a 25-k trailer.  But what you are talking about is "the dealer offered you 7-k toward a 25-k trailer"!

Some times I have to submit then go back and edit to post.  Most of the time I have no problems....

Dont think I was priced high, but it's not a cheap trailer either (Elite 3 horse, LQ, loaded) and i'll keep it before i give it away.
