RAIN!!!!   We've got rain!!!!!

We've actually had rain off and on a couple of times this summer (two to maybe three times), but I thought it would be like the other few times.. rain for 10 minutes ( less than one inch total) and then none for weeks or months.. We had a good hard shower Tuesday at 0500; went riding at 0900.. by the time we returned at @ 1100 there wasn't even any dirt sticking to the horses hooves, our ground is that dry... Our area has been @ 20 " of moisture down from our norm for the year.. We've had TWO hard downpours today!! the first was it's usual 10 minute one, but this one is still going strong.. dumping a lot of water on our poor starved area!!  i think it's too late for our pasture grass, but hopefully we won't have to worry about rationing our water.

It has been drier than a popcorn toot around here, but we finally got enough rain to make the weeds turn green again. The grass is a gonner, I'm afraid. Anyway, it sure smelled nice for a while.

It rained most of the night last night and all morning today.. Stopped right now...Actually have water standing in athletic fields at school and in the park we pass on our way to school.. Our street was flooded for a little while yesterday... Haven't seen that a a couple of years at least!  Maybe I'll go out and wash my car or something to help get it started again....

We have got a ton of rain during July and August. But the last ten days it has been sunny and mid 70's with low humidity. The next ten day forcast is the same. Excellent camping/riding weather. We are taking advantage of it before ol' man winter hits!

I am on the other side of Texas from ridingarocky and we are dry here too, not as bad as south Texas tho. I got a 1/2" yesterday, need a lot more but happy to get that. My pond is almost dried up, at least this shower will help the grass a little.

Ugh.  5 days of rain here....  up to our ankles in black gumbo.  I know my guy ordered it especially for this past week.  He knew I took vacation off and had planned on starting him under saddle.  He lucked out..... this time.

I have gotten about 4" now I think, still not enough for me in this sand. I really feel for ya'll in the black gumbo, I used to live on that nasty stuff. Nasty in the rain and big ole cracks when it's really dry.

I remember living on gumbo ground when I lived in Louisiana.. Planted sweet potatoes in my garden one time and they grew out all long and twisted...following the cracks!

Well, I'll bet that's a sight to see.  I'll have to plant some sweet potatoes and see what happens.

Yes, we do get some might big cracks.  Fell in one once late in the night looking for my cows.  Sunk clear up to my knee.  Luckily I didn't break my leg.

We've had sooooo much rain here in the last week and a half, I went outside yesterday and looked in one of my 100 gallon rubbermaid troughs that I had emptied (I'm down to one horse now) and it was filled over 1/3 full with just rain water!
