In the latest issue of "Horse & Rider" is a page dedicated to those who mourn the loss of their pets.

One of the most poignant epitaphs I've read was among them:

"I placed a stone on my horse's grave, inscribed with the last thing I whispered in his ear: Wait for me at the gates and we'll ride in together"

That gave me chills. Funny how something so simple can touch your heart.

I also had a stone made when my husband's horse suddenly passed.  Under her name and dates we inscribed "Blazing Trails in Heaven".

About a week later my daughter, whom was in the first grade at the time, came home talking about how loud it must be in heaven.  I asked her what she was talking about and she told me how she learned about the streets of gold in heaven.  She went on to explain that heaven must be loud with Ms. Mollie running on those streets of gold.  She said she was a big horse and she bet it made lots of noise.  I wish all hard things in life could be seen as easy as kids see them.
