I have a 1993 3500 Silverado 6.5L diesel DUALLY 1 ton crew cab. I have been pulling a 4500lb trailer with 3 horses, with no problem. In getting ready to buy a new trailer, I am very interested in the GVWR. I don't want to outweigh the truck. The driver's side sticker is gone and I can not find the info in the truck's manual. I have searched the Chevy sites and apparently, the guys there are not reading my question correctly. The standard reply has been to weigh the truck. Yes, I know I need to weigh the truck and trailer fully loaded, but I want to know if the truck can pull the empty trailer first! (I do believe this baby was made to pull). Does anyone know the capacity? I want to be legal and safe and educated bout my truck

The 94 and 96 we used for wreckers both had a 10-k GVWR. Both was crew cab duallys with the 6.5 Turbo/auto! Most general rule of thumb for older GM's is 3/4 tons 8600 gvwr, single wheel 1 tons around 9000 gvwr, and dual wheel 1 tons is 10-k gvwr. I'm sure there will be a bash crew along anytime to dispute my input, but these figures are my opinion based on the trucks I have either owned or bought and sold since 1983. I have been in the used car buisness since 1983 and have to buy tags and stickers for the ones I sell and the tags are based on the gvwr. hope this helps, HTB

HTB is on the money... That 6.5 engine was rated at 195 hp with 420 ft. lb. of torque... Closest thing I could find was for a 1999. Fifth wheel towing capacity of 8000# for a crew cab pickup. 10,000# for a chassis cab. I've seen farms roll in the N.C. State fairgrounds with three axle steel stock trailers with anywhere from six to nine big padded up walking horses on board..... They were 6.5 turbo diesels with manual transmissions, they could pull anything!!! Or at least these guys tried to.

anablackcris,  If you have not done it to your 6.5 yet, you need to think about moving the little black control module that is under the large gray cover under the hood.  (under the cover looking down into the engine the box is on the right side of the injector pump) This controls the something on the fuel or injector pump.  I believe there is a company called heathdiesel or heathdieselpower.com that offers a relocation kit for this things.  The black box is only about a 150.00 item but after replacing 3 on a 1996 wrecker in 1 year I bought the kit and never had to buy another module.
