I don't know if it will work to sure scratches or rain rot, but have heard of using it on itchy tails and I've done it myself. The vet my mother used to work for thought it was great for EVERYTHING and always had bottles of it around. He claimed that if you used it on cat scratches and bites, as soon as they happened, it would keep them from getting sore. If you've been scratched or bitten by a cat, you know how sore they are. My mother used it and says it is true. It is worth trying. If you don't see improvement, try something else. Let us know how it works for you! We have a tendancy to get "epidemic" scratches overnight at my barn. So far, (knock on wood) my horse, has not gotten it this year, but I'm away this weekend, so we'll see what she looks like on Monday! It seems to only take a minute of looking away for the stuff to take off.

The lady that told me about it swears by it.She has a drum horse with all that feathering who is prone to the scratches.She was told about it at our local tack shop.The oil is probally good for lossening the scabs.

We have used it for years with GREAT success! In fact, I have a huge bottle sitting on the counter that I just picked up at Sam's. We don't dilute, we just put it in a sprayer and go. I will spray it just as a precaution on my horses during rainy weather.

Listerine or scope are also WONDERFUL for treating ear infections in your dog's ears! Just pour a little directly into the ear canal and work it in to the bottom. No more expensive vet creams and steroids! Works for swimmer's ear in people, too.

I use it all the time too. Straight, don't dilute it, and make sure you get the skin wet not just the hair. It doesn't seem to sting...at least they don't object to it. And make sure it is the YELLOW Listerine or generic.

I use a mixture of listerine, baby oil, vinegar and water. Mix in equal parts, shake well and spray on. The vinegar and listerine act as both a cleaning agent and an antiseptic, the water and baby oil help the skin stay soft and maintain moisture. I got this receipe here in this forum from a woman who swears it will also help manes and tails grow longer and thicker. I use it on our TWH gelding who appears to be alergic to everything in our pasture!
I have also heard you can spray straight listerine around your camp are, on your patio etc... to help keep away mosquitos. Spray it on the furniture and the ground but not on yourself.

i use it on tails if a horse is rubbing its tail out and i am pretty sure it is worm free. i use it undiluted and have never had a problem. however for scratches i have had really good luck using biozide/idodine scrub. jmho
