You are getting power to your trailer brake terminal (pin) for some reason when you plug the trailer plug into your tow vehicle. If you are using a 7 to 6 adapter, check it as it could be cracked on the inside & might need to be replaced. If you are not using an adapter, your trailer plug may be cracked inside or it has power jumping from one terminal to the other inside the plug. If you are not knowledgeable on the electrical side of trailer brakes, have a qualified trailer mechanic check it for you.

Your problem is the hot wire and brake wire is crossed. Usually the problem is in the plug. On a 7 way plug, it is the black and blue positions that need to be switched
