Just thinbk what THIS is going to do to the price of hay and feed!
I hadn't thought of that, I better go stock up before the feed prices go up again. I filled my truck last Friday ($96) and yesterday I still had a bit under half a tank and it took another $80.

Like Terri comments, They are already talking about hay being over $200 a ton.
When you have to pay $4.50 a gallon for fuel (which is what I'm seeing forcast for fuel this summer), All foodstuffs will have to increase to reflect the cost.

I saw diesel prices in Central PA today ranging from $4.09 to $4.22. It's really getting scary! At this rate we'll be closer to $5 by summer. That may curb some horse folk's activities this summer. I'm thinking twice before hauling now.

Ours went up from 379.9 to 395.9 in one day...I know that the prices are going up but damn can't they do it gradually and not throw a whammy on us. That's a big jump. Be nice if our pay checks were goin up with this inflation. Going to make it hard to enjoy horse camping this summer when it cost more to get there than to enjoy it...

One day it was $3.11 the next it was $3.19 - that is the cheapest. Diesel I can't stand to look anymore. We board our horses. I told the family we might have to sell the horses and the trailer. We might not have the money to support the horses and go to work. Hay will go up too, you can count on that. Also the housing business will suffer since people will not want to drive very far from their work. I would say it is up to the people of the United States to start their own programs for dealing with this. The gas companies are not listening. Anyone want to start a Bio-desel factory? I know people would come and fill up.

Gas is predicted to be $4.00 by May by Monday's oil closing (why oil/gas went up because of april's sales). With this happening Diesel will be $4.80 by then for sure. Here its running from .60 to .80 cents higher.

I just paid $3.83 a gallon for diesel - cost $75.00 for 19.5 gallons (1/2 tank), 2 weeks ago I paid $3.53... I just might have to dust off my bicyle at this rate.

I paid $3.89/gallon for diesel in Louisville, KY on Sunday. Sure makes it expensive to get home from a show where you won no $$$$$! Haven't seen it over $4 yet, but it can't be far away.
Almost forgot about the truck stop south of Cincinnati last Tuesday that wasn't even posting the price at the pump. They were raising it so fast, that the clerk would tell you at the fuel desk what the current price was. Doesn't look good for any of us road warriors.

You might check out www.dieselsecrets.com Make sure to go through the site completly and research it. We are getting ready to start our first tank of it and see how it goes. You can't argue with .47 to .50 cents a gallon. It's extra work but worth it. I had a customer who got us to start using the product. Him and his brother have been using it for several years now and love it.

So at what point are the Presidential candidates going to take the fuel prices on as a campaign platform? I'm thinking the one that can start making noise about the high fuel costs and actually do something about it would be a shoe-in for the Presidency. Or, here's a thought, could all of them be shareholders in the oil companies that are sticking it to us?

Here in Vermont we're still under $4 for premium gas and diesel, but just barely. I'm pulling a 3H, 8ft LQ with a 3/4 ton GMC gas engine, getting between 10 and 11 mpg. Show season starts in April, all the shows are in other states, so it will be an expensive season. Our trainer is 3 hours away (lessons are getting fewer and further between!) Don't know how many shows we will get to this year. I don't know about anyone else, but I get really angry every time I read about the oil company profits. They're really raining on our horse parade...

A couple rode their horses into town to Kmart the other day to shop. Two under saddle and a pack horse. He stayed outside while she went inside to shop for the month.

Oil prices are much more complicated than you state...
Because World Oil Prices are in U.S.Dollars...every time the Dollar falls in value the price of oil will go up accordingly...There is a relative number that has been bandied about by T. Boone Pickens and other oil experts as 85 MILLION BARRELS PER DAY as MAXIMUM OUTPUT in the world...since the world demand is approaching or exceeding capacity...PRICES WILL RISE...At this point, China and India are increasing their oil demands which is another piece in the price increase puzzle...The other problem is speculation caused by the fact that much of the world's oil production is in some of the most UNSTABLE regions of the world...Nigeria has had interruptions in oil production which helps the speculators believe in $150/bbl price range...
In fact, there have been several groups floating a $200/bbl price by the end of the year...
Well, rather than complete a treatise on current oil pricing structures here...I'll say good night...

Don't you guys know about the oil price lever in the Oval office? All Bush (or next President) has to do is pull/push it to make the world wide price go up or down. It's under the desk. Monica accidently pushed it in 1996...we had a slight price bump then

It's not the oil refineries that driving the price up right now. It's as Paul stated. It's the value of the dollar and traders. There is a demand of about 15 million barrels a day, The traders are trading over 150 million barrels a day this past few weeks. That mean each barrel of oil is getting sold and resold multiple times each day. Each time at a higher price. As the dollar continues to slide, the traders buy and sell in currancies that are stronger. And the price of oil continues to increase.
Add to that the fact that we are exporting diesel fuel. Most foreign countries use more diesel than they do gasoline (especially the evolving countries like china and India). The demand for diesel is higher world wide and drives the price of diesel up here at home.
It's not a whole lot different that what happened to the home loan business a year or two ago. Loans got sold and resold. Pretty soon the become over valued and bottom fell out. The big shots in the mortgage business took their hundreds of millions in in profit and let the average guy loose his $50,000 per house.
