Just went by to pick up feed today.  Owner told me her truck driver today told her they would probably be on strike with the rest of the truckers in April. She moves a good bit of feed and has to order weekly. One to two trucks every Friday..... Not good. Dang it, last year it was road trips for hay.  This year it looks like road trips for darn feed!!!!!!!

I thought this was all hipe but looks like it is going to become a reality. Trucker said it would last for a month.......

Don't know, they are all trying to get together. If they pull it off, hold on, it's going to be interesting.

My husband works for Yellow/Roadway. they just signed new contracts so it,s not the Teamster/ Commercial truckers. Must be some type of independants , Independants have to pay for their own fuel out of pocket and it,s Much harder for them to get By . Hmmmmmmm

Well, I hate to say it but they ought to strike.  I know we will all suffer if they do.  But maybe it will lower the prices some.  Teamsters is a pretty big outfit.

They don't expect to get lower diesel prices.... But they are trying to get more $$ for hauling. A lot of the small independants haven't been able to up their rates when fuel went up.

I've worked in the feed industry for the past ten years, both running stores and working for the manufacturer and have never encountered a strike like that. Most feed companies ship through independant haulers or contract with one company to do all their hauling. This may be an excuse for raising feed prices on someones part. What brand of feed, if I may ask?

Oh, great. Higher wages=higher feed prices. I can barely afford them now! 1 I don't know what the average person is going to do to survive if things don't get stabilized soon. I am retired on a very fixed income. I hope my pasture comes in before they do this stupid thing.

I was told the same thing at my feed store this morning and I took it as just hear say, but now I guess maybe there is something to it. My father-in-law is an independent trucker and I'm all for them striking to get a higher freight bill these fuel prices affect independent truckers more than anyone. Trucking is hard work and when you're a owner/operator you have to watch every penny as it is right now they don't have any pennies to watch. When you put in 14 hrs a day and bring home less than 100.00 dollars after your fuel you aren't going to make it. I wish all of them the best of luck they need a break, we all need a break.

There's been a thought put out that the true reason diesel is so high is to run the independant truckers and smaller trucking businesses out of business. As it seems that is happening, there could be some reality in that. I could understand these guys getting together and saying enough. I wish them luck.

Since we have become such a 24 and 7 society it would be hard to organize a full 'do not drive on this day' for everyone, but wonder if we could organize and pick two days to chose from would people do it? Pick one weekday and one weekend day. For those that could avoid driving on both days, woo hoo. And I don't mean not just buying fuel, I mean not using fuel at all. Don't know if it would make a big difference in the greater scheme of things, but who knows? If nothing else it would show some unity on the issue.

That said, perhaps I should stock up on more senior feed than I normally would. ;)

It's Tuesday, April 1st.  That's when we're ALL supposed to park our trucks, company drivers and owner/ops too.  They had a small one going on Friday in the Windy (Chicago) and it fizzled way before it ever got to Eastern IN.  I don't think much will come of it.  I personally truck cattle so I will NOT be parking my rig, I can't and won't do that to the calves---they NEED to move.  It won't hurt my feelings at all if all the other guys do park 'em, but I'm betting they won't, think about it this way..... Jobs are fairly hard to come by now days, very few guys are gonna take the chance of getting fired over this deal, they need to work to keep the bills paid, they (bills) will still be there in the mailbox at the end of the month, regardless.  Owner/ops have the best chance to pull it off, but there again, there are VERY, VERY few truely independant truckers left anymore, everyone is leased on to a bigger company, so they still get their marching orders from someone else.  And you all are right, Owner/ops ARE feeling this fuel price b.s. worse than anyone else.  Do you all realize that most of our trucks only get between 5-7 mpg.   Now figure up how much that run from PA. to Western OK. is gonna cost!  The BIG companies get a discount on fuel due to the huge quantities they buy,  Most of your owner/ops do get a fuel surcharge, but they are NOT keeping up with the fuel price increase.  Everybody expects the trucker to "eat" the expense, and they all complain when the truckin' bill goes up, but most have never even stopped to figure out just how much it costs to keep a truck on the road!  It's not like a four-wheeler (car).  We are taxed, and permitted to death... heavy truck road usage tax, IFTA, commercial insurance, cargo insurance, base plates, ICC number, in-state operating athourity, NOW on top of all that is the normal maintenance and upkeep, which is SIGNIFICANTLY more expensive than pick-ups and cars.  Have ya priced a 11R24.5 truck tire lately, anywhere from 3-5 hundred dollars EACH (theres 18 on most rigs), brake job... 2-4 hundred bucks per axle (theres 5 on most rigs), 230-250 bucks for an oil change & lube job... etc. etc.  Does anybody ever stop to think about any of that, NO They just complain when the truckin bill goes up 10-15 dollars.

WHEW, didn't mean to go off on y'all, I know you understand, just lots of folks out there that don't.

Well, I guess we'll all see what comes of this deal together, talk to y'all later...

I don't know, if the French can do it, why can't we? http://www.cnn.com/WORLD/9711/03/france.strike/

As for me, I haven't heard anything from the union on this. Unless the union says strike, I can't. About all I can do is avoid buying diesel Tuesday.

To help combat deisel prices I finally let my hubby get a motorcycle.  The payments/insuranceand a tank of gas are less than the 2 tanks of deisel a month that I was using and it holds a whopping 3 gallons of gas.  He uses it to got to work and I use his car to drive me to work and the kids to school.  The truck is parked in the garage.  Does deisel go bad?  Do they make a stabelizer for it?

The bad thing about not buying fuel on a certain day is, people will go a day or two before and fill up!  And that is not going to have any effect on any fuel prices, because the oil companies have aready so enough fuel the day or to before to cover what is not going to be sold on that day!

If you rally want to hit the oil companies pocket, pick one major company and not buy fuel from them a day or so.  But everyone needs to help out and hit the same company at one time!

The only people that would really hurt is the people that own the gas stations.  It would just annoy the oil companies.

For gosh sakes, this isn't the depression people. Ecomonies go down but if allowed to work themselves out, they go up again. Diesel prices are up- thank the gov eco-wacko for that. Then you have developing nations demanding more fuel and food which puts pressure on supplies- there is PLENTY of oil in the ground but by golly, those eco-wackos won't let us go git it. Bio-fules is not the answer. Fossil fuels are...thats the reality of the situation. We need oil not grains for energy

The so called strike will do nothing. Not buying fuel from a major oil company for a day might make you feel better but other than that, you haven't accomplished a thing. Syop wasting your time spouting off about a strike, just go about your life the best you can. nobody is starving or freezing, you'll get to work and your horses will eat.

I'm not defending the oil companies but think about what they can do.

1. They can keep prices low and just run out of fuel.

2. Raise prices until we dumb consumers start not using as much(what's happening now).

3. Spend billions of dollars, deal with the bureaucracies of our screwed up goverment and try to build new refineries so they could make less money for more product.

If you are the CEO of an oil company and you choose #3, you will get fired. If the goverment really wants to fix the problem they would be waiving some tree hugger rules and let the oil companies build some new refineries. Then spend some cash developing alternative fuels.
