I've got a Featherlite three horse GN with tack room and I'm wondering if anyone else carries insurance on theirs? I've been told it's insured under my auto policy while it is being towed....but when it is unhitched, if someone steals it, or breaks in and steals the tack, I'm on my own. Any input on who you have insuring your trailer (Name of company) would be appreciated!!

Hi..it's only insured for liability, when hooked to your towing vehicle. That means...should it come unhooked from your towing vehicle while on the road and it causes an accident, you would be covered. If you want comp insurance (theft/damage) you need to buy that coverage. My BP trailer has replacement insurance.

All of our trailers are insured through State Farm, (niece is agent, who'd march thru fire for ya) cuz we live in tornado alley etc hail, tree limbs etc!

I've got the same trailer except a 4horse and it is insured through Farm Bureau for $123.38 a year. That covers the "extras" like vandals/loss of use/theft -replacement cost. My insurance agent also told me to list my saddles/tack as contents so they will be covered incase the tack room is broken into.

It's essential to carry separate insurance on your trailer. Mine is through Allstate, about $100 a year. I think juat about any company will insure a trailer, although I would prefer to deal with someone who is a "horsey" person to make sure that you get what you need.

Can I be nosey and ask what ya'll have your trailers valued at? My insurance is way higher than ya'lls. Just wondering if it is the value it's insured for or am I just spending to much.
Thanks

I have my LQ trailer insured with Explorer Rv Ins through National Interstate Ins. 888-774-6778 but I gotta tell ya...my premium is about 3 times what the other folks have stated that they pay. I do have full replacement value coverage. This company was recommended to me from fellow LQ owners.

I have a 92 Brenderup valued at 5,500. I also get my car insurance and homeowner's through Allstate, so I may be getting a discount due to multiple products. However I would call around...does US Rider do insurance maybe? Would be a good sideline for them if not.

I have a 4H Featherlite with 6 ft shortwall LQ. Insured for $25,000 plus all contents for replacement cost for all risk. Insure everything I own with American Family. Trailer costs $329 per year after discounts. It is best to insure your trailer with the same company as your farm insurance, if possible, for claims purposes. e.g. Are your saddles covered under your farm or trailer insurance? Which deductible? Mine would go to the last place they were at, which is always the trailer, which has the lowest deductible. If you have living quarters it needs to be insured as an RV.

I'm wondering if the price differences have anything to do with the LOAN VALUE remaining on the trailer being insured...just a thought.
Also, for those with LQ's that value the trailer as a second home (tax reasons) wouldn't the policy be a home-owner's policy? Or have I lost my mind this morning?

Ours is insured for replacement 35000, + contents. Also around $300 a year, which is alright, if one is ever wrecked badly it would be a real disaster..

Well, that makes me feel a little better about what I am paying. I have mine insured thru Equipment Insurance Int'l, Inc. They are the ones the trailer dealer recommeded and I also have my tractor insured thru them. The tractor dealer also recommended them.

Check out Allied Insurance. They will pay for contents and trailer value if trailer is stolen. Just make sure you insure the trailer for replacement cost. Always a good idea to keep a record of what is in your trailer should it become stolen. Kinda hard to remember all the little things in there when you have to make a list to provide the insurance.
Also, might want to get an add-on to the policy too for your saddles/tack. This becomes a sticky situation whether it is covered under homeowners or the trailer insurance.

All of our insurance is through Farm Bureau so we have a multiple vehicle discount and if anything is stolen I don't have to worry about weither it is the full coverage or homeowners that should cover it (no 'it's the other companies responsibility')since it's all insured with them.
Location also has a lot to do with it. Our insurance dropped when we left TX and moved to NM. We used to be in a "higher theft risk" area.

I have my 3H Featherlite, full coverage..fire/theft,etc. insured thru Progressive along with my cars & pickups. I have it valued at $15,000. As stated on the policy. By the way it's a 2003 model no Living Quarters, justa 4ft shortwall. I think it's 140.00 a year.

When we bought our used '99 Logan 3H Competitor 3 with an unfinished 4' dressing room, I priced comprehensive with my insurance company (Travelers) and it was $280/year. I passed because the trailer stays parked in a pretty secure place when we don't use it, and when we do use it, whoever steals it would pretty much have to kill me to get away with it, in which case I won't really care about replacing it.
Do you all think it's worth it to add comprehensive on this kind of trailer?

What would happen if you had a fire, act of God; flood, tornado etc? What would happen if you were in an accident? Do you have the funds to recover, repair or replace the trailer on your own??

I hate to say it, but there is no such thing as a pretty secure place, unless your trailer is parked on the White House lawn. Or maybe in Fort Knox. Otherwise, someone can steal it. However it is certainly your choice..the thing about insurance is that 99% of the time you will never use it and would love to use the money for something else. But if you need it you will sure regret not having it.
