as i get closer to ordering my new LQ trailer, i am questioning some of my choices.
do i really need a 6.0 frig with a freezer? we mainly do weekend shows, not camping. so now i am wondering if i would do better ordering 4.0 (it will be an 11' SW for myself and two daughters) and using the left over space for storage.
i don't plan on doing much cooking. mainly need frig for milk, bagged salads and left overs from eating out. we use a cooler for our drinks, since we got thru tons of liquids during the hot weather (at least 6 months out of the year).

If you have the space for the larger fridge, buy it. Our weekend or even day shows involve a lot of food for three or more people. We would be hard pressed to get along without a 6 CF. Like most other things, if you don't have it, you will need it. If you have it, you may not need it, but at least you have the option to use it.
The amount of additional storage space will not be significant. A rigid cooler takes up a lot of space, and packaging two areas for your shows takes additional time and effort.
Our weekender package has the smaller 4 cf ridge, and it is one of the limiting factors of where and how the trailer will be used.

I vote for the Bigger Fridge too. I keep gel ice packs and take a large plastic bowl of ice from my home fridge and place it in the LQ Freezer. Never can have too much ice. And I never leave home without ice cream!

resale...6.0!
Gelpak for people. Real food, like eggs, bacon, milk, butter, jelly. Cold drinks, ice, ice cream, yogurt. Applesauce, lunchmeat, miracle whip, mustard. Hamburger makins. Bagged salad, salad dressings.
Now that you will have a nice LQ, you may find yourself doing a camping weeklong trail ride now and then, or a clinic etc. You will use the large frig, definitely!

Dunior, An old orthopedic surgeon at DUMC, sawed that bad, rotten leg off back in 9teen hundred and 9inty 4!! Don't have to worry about that one anymore... Even though sometimes it feels like it's still there.
Get the 6.0 fridge, or larger, with the freezer and don't tell your friends. If you teel them you got a big fridge, then... Every time you meet up with them at a show, event, trail ride, etc. they'll want you to store something in your fridge for them, cause they're too cheap to stop and buy a bag of ice!!!

PIZZA!!!! Get those little frozen jobbers and throw em in the oven. Boy, pizza and beer or my personal fav Southern Comfort, sure hits the spot after a day of riding. I got a LQ with an oven JUST for the purpose of cooking said pizzas. The freezer was a must. As everyone said, get the bigger fridge....it's not like you'll gain that much cabinet space by having a small one..

The best thing about having a lilving quarters trailer is the frig. Once you have one, the 6.0 will barely big enough. I also think resale would be better as most LQs of that size have the big fridge.

I have a small one, a 3.0 which is just big enough for food and milk for a weekend for me. The freezer holds the ice boots for after the 50 mile endurance rides :) I bring a 5 gallon water cooler filled with ice and a few gallons of water. I always have cold water to drink and can dip into the ice in that water cooler for a drink if I need to. I'd love a bigger fridge but can make do with the smaller one for just me. I can always bring a big cooler with block ice if I want more cold food, like fruit and drinks which can take up alot of room.

Oh YES go with BIG FRIG.You'll never regret it I promise. My husband and I are only two now and we LOVE our big frig.If ya dont cook much(as we don't either)it'll hold more frozen microwave food). Also ICE trays and as every says ICE CREAM(pints) many so every one takes what they want. Our first lqs trailer had small frig and really never kept anything frozen was waste space(JMHO).We also take popciles(sp?) for quick cool down treats or frozen strawberry daquires(make at home ahead time put into freezer bag).

Ditto, only,we take Finest Call marguerita mix in the fridge, tequila (of course!) and a blender in the drawer.Gotta have ice for those! I'll try premixing them, easier, plus, folks won't hear the blender running at night maybe!

quote CRG: DARN RIGHT!Good thinking.OR fudgesicles,Yukon bars,ect.either
Take a couple of your "fudgesicles" and knock them off the stick into the blender, (they are not as noisy as ice cubes) add a significant amount of Bailey's (with a hint of Caramel) Irish Cream, blend quietly for about 10 seconds, and sip away.. Nice little desert drink before bed..... Or the next morning, for breakfast!!
The above work well with "icecream sandwiches" also!!
So, you need a really BIG freezer in your LQ trailer.

I'm almost to the point where I need to buy a refrigerator/freezer for my DIY LQ. My question is does it hurt the refrigerator/freezer to be plugged up for a weekend use and then unplugged when I'm not using the trailer? I do not plan on keeping my trailer plugged into electricity at home when it's not in use. I plan on buying a 4.0 refrigerator/freezer from Home Depot in case that makes a difference. Thanks!

I don't own a LQ trailer and never will, but am wondering if you all had seen that there is a 'Dometic' recall? I believe(?) that's the maker of many/most of those RV fridges/freezers? I may be wrong, but that's what I think I remember, as I HAVE looked at several LQs and stayed in an Aspenlite TT on a multiday ride with a friend(she-or rather her husband, who went with us because he didn't trust any 'outsider' to drive his precious Dodge, and the ride's sponsor club had volunteer members who moved our rigs twice, from camp to camp-- pulled the TT, I pulled the horses!) Sorry, I digress--but I did see a notice about Dometic, I *think* in the "Trail Rider" magazine, very recently.
I personally swear by norcold. However I had a dometic in a camper from 1968 and that fridge is still running strong! However, it stopped working once and we took it out and shook it upside down. It has worked colder and better ever since....

ok, ok, i can take a hint. i will go with the 6.0, and even if i don't ever really fill it up, it will be better for resale.
ya'll did give me some good ideas for snacks and beverages. maybe its time for a HTW recipe book?? (my hairdresser, who trail rides, was trying to tell me how to make omelettes in a bag... and then boil them. sounded interesting.)
