I am looking for feedback on this dealer - the good and the bad.

Thanks,

Nancy!

I have dealt with Randy from Ken Feagin on numerous occasions. He went out of his way to answer all of my many, many questions when I was shopping and even 4 years after my purchase doesn't hesitate to help me out whenever I have a question or problem. He has provided excellent service after the sale and made good on all of his "sales talk" promises. He went out of his way last spring to get my trailer in and out of the shop to repair some hail damage on a very short time frame. I've recommended him to several friends who have since purchased trailers from him and they have all had good things to say as well. I recommend him highly. Feel free to PM me if you have specific questions.

They have a used Sundowner trailer on the lot and a friend of mine called them about it(last weekend), I e-mailed some pictures of my friends trailer(trade-in) to them they went really, really low on the trade (about 1/3rd less than market value) I understand we are all on this planet to make a living, but dealers should have enough room in a used trailer so as not to have to low ball a trade. JMHO needless to say my friend who needed to spend his cash before the end of year, went on to another trailer.

Can't really say yet Nancy, I'm needing some more time to sort some things out, can't talk about it. May turn out real good, or not so good. Go with your gut feeling, I did....My wife didn't and she bought the trailer. They have a large used trailer inventory, most look like they've been there a while and haven't been cleaned up for resale yet. Stil got shavings and poop in them..........But they may be customer trailers there for repairs.

I've bought 2 LQ trailers from Randy Burmaster at Ken Feagin.  He worked really hard to satisfy our wants and needs.  And as I'm sure he can verify, I'm a hard one to make happy.  Yes, they have used trailers on the back lot, but most of them have been used hard, and with all the low payments available from various lenders, why buy used when you can buy new for about the same $$ ?  I would recommend their dealership to anyone.

I'm not interested in payments, I'm paying with cash. Just in case you didn't notice when you were looking at your LOW payment, the dollar amount at the top is much larger on a new trailer. That is the NUMBER I look at.

I'm sorry I sounded a little harsh in the last post, but I have been dealing with trailer dealers for the last couple of weeks on buying a trailer for a tax writeoff(a friends) buy the end of the year, and all I hear is this payment Horsesh*t. I had a dealer last week tell me that he sells 99.9% of his trailers on payments and that a used trailer just ends up in his way. He said that everyone he deals with tells him were to be on a payment and he just has to show them what trailers fit in that spot. I being in sales find that funny, I love it when a customer tells me, make under $500 a month. That means that I am going to MAKE SOME CASH. In my business it doesn't happen but about once a year. How about if it happened 99.9% of the time. I am about worn out with it all, we listed the trailer used on this site and have been very busy sending out photos ect.. I believe it is going to sell quickly, yep the same trailer, that to a dealer was going to be in the way.

Thanks for the replies.  I am looking at a used trailer (and yes it seems there are still shavings on the floor).  I am keeping my old trailer so I don't have a trade in and I also am paying cash.

I am mostly worried about buying from too far away to travel to see it first and then paying to have it shipped west.  I am also worried that the trailer might have been used hard.  Our other one is in excellent shape because we take care of it and don't use it in the winter.

Keep the replies coming.

Nancy!

HW- I usually like your advice, but I can't agree with you this time. Frankly- I appreciate it when I get a real price on equipment, and the dealer doesn't have enough "built in " to lie to me about my trade in. Just shoot me straight. I'm not defending Randy, (but he's always been fair to me...), but maybe his retail value and yours are different.... Remember a trade is two transactions at once. You're buying his, and he's buying yours. A lot of opportunity for difference of opinion. Better, worse, or indifferent if we want our dealer to be there to support us, we have to allow him to pay his expenses and make a living. And from what I've seen, none of them are making a killing.

I am looking for a used Sundowner (or Hart or Featherlite) 3 or 4H slant load with 8 to 10 feet sw LQ, managers, AC, propane furnace, door from LQ to horse area, awning, dining table, 8 feet wide, would love 7'6" tall. All for a reasonable price. Would love for it to be in Montana, Idaho or Washington so it would be close enough to check out. Yes, I know, not asking for much huh? I haven't tried equine.com or the other one yet. Thanks, Nancy!

Maybe I didn't make myself clear, K Feagin Trailer sales just lowballed the trade-in. We were looking at a used trailer from him. The other dealer to remain unnamed is the one that said a trailer like my friends would be in the way($20K trailer) while he was maintaining that a new one($50K) had no room for negotiations. Sorry to tell ya, but a $50K trailer has some room for negotiation. This guy is selling them on payments and your cash means nothing to him. His business plan is to sell them at Sticker, and it must be working. Because a whole lot of folks don't care what the top line says as long as the payment fits.

14' Shell trailers are $30K

14' Finished trailers are $60K

That's $2150 a foot on the shortwall, someone is making a killing.

Nancy, have you tried Uncle Bob's trailer sales? He is out west and a big Sundowner dealer, I think.  I know a couple people who have bought from him and seem to think they got a good deal.  I've never personally bought from him so I can't comment first hand.  I have, however, bought a few trailers from Sundowner of Georgia and been very happy with the service.  Good luck in your search, it took me months to finally find the one I just bought. Take care.

Randy is "Da Bomb".  I've never met a man as nice and genuine as he is.  We've purchased 2 trailers from him and he was wonderful.

Did you find a trailer yet?  We have a trailer for sale that is all but brand new.  My husband got it so I could drive it easily - we had a LARGE LQ to travel and camp in with horses.  The next month I was told no more riding - we sold all but one horse.  The trailer literally was used to deliver 3 horses (possibly 4) locally, it doesn't have 500 miles on it!  It got more action as a "tack room".  I think we purchased it in Feb or March 07 - it was a leftover 06 model. We paid $20,900 for it and we have it for sale at $18,900.  Let me know if you want to see it.

Sorry - I hit send before the trailer info was pasted!  It is a 2006 Featherlite 8541.   4' short wall front dress, Screen door, All Aluminum, Stainless nose wrap, 7' tall, true 7' wide, folding rear tack, drop down windows w/ face guards on head wall, sliders on butt wall, and a saddle rack in rear tack with an additional location in front dress. I also have brand new air bags that we didn't use on our truck - I will throw them in for free to whomever purchases the trailer (they are still in the box).  It was for a Ford F250 King Ranch.  I'm asking $18,900 for the trailer - it really is still like new as it was hardly used due to my health problems.  We'd deliver it, but not cross country...sorry.

July:  Thanks, I'll look into that.

KAM114:  Thanks but that is not what I'm looking for.  I want an 8 wide with LQ.

Thanks for all the replies.  Randy seems to be very forthcoming at this point.  I'm just nervous about buying something unseen from such a great distance.

Someone is making a killing is dependent upon the level of options on those trailers. Upgraded interiors, slides, generators, satellite all drive up the cost/foot. I think you are a little low on expectation.

Well, I guess I should add something to this thread. I have been in sales for 34 years, 14 of them in trailers. I have a lot of satified customers. They, unfortunatly will be the ones to lose on this one. People like "retento" and this liar named "HWBar" who never did anything he said he did, I have quit trailer sales. I am sorry to my hundreds of customers who will now be without their ace in the hole. I have always been there for them. Thank you rento & hwbar, you put me into early retirement. Randy Burmaster
