This location will tell you why you need to contact your Congressman...

The website is rather unusual in it layout so takes a little effort to read and navigate on...

This is the official Government site...

Also the site www.libertyark.net has a great deal of information. This is the grass roots organization that was formed when NAIDS was first in the makings.

Basically it is empty legislation;  it is not fully funded and my guess is that it never will be.....just do not register your farm voluntarily.....and like I am gonna call some fed every time I ride a horse off my place....oh yeah.....

Well,Rose, that is EXACTLY what the NAIDS proposed as part of their little parcel they were about to dupe the American public/taxpayers with, and saddle American farmers and producers with.

That you notify some unseen Big Brother monitor with a phone call every time you take your animals off of your premises. Thus one reason for the microchips. What next, send helicopters over remote areas where people have been known to ride horses, track the horses, then call in to see if it was reported???

I WOULD NOT DOUBT IT FOR A MINUTE.

And in the beginning,(and it's not fully over with yet,so don't get caught sleeping) they were going to make it MANDATORY that you register your premises and obtain a farm number, and microchip your animals. There would have been no "voluntary" to it.

It is not only a crock of s***, it is a whole ocean of horsecrap!!! I know that it is some cityfied suit that never gets out of town(we hope) that cooked this junk up!! A friend who lives just outside Kansas City, Missouri,  had a woman show up at his place asking about his horses and representing herself as a federal employee assigned to take inventory there... she was asked to leave and told to get a warrant if she wanted anything there. I don't think there are any "teeth" in this proposed legislation, but we really do need to pay attention. If we had to inventory horses and notify each time we left home we could not show/rodeo/or trailride ever again...fat chance while I'm still breathing.

Jane, you're right. And that's why libertyark.net came into being when all of this first was in the makings by the USDA.

it is  a crock of s---,but,it's most definately not a make-believe story that someone just sat around and cooked up to get a hoax started.I have a good friend whose husband is a Federal meat inspector for the USDA.I asked them point blank if they had heard anything about this. The husband was silent, then, avoiding my eyes, said something about "well, just in passing." And would not comment further.

A year later,SHE told me that he had indeed heard of it,had been in meetings about it,briefings that the USDA was holding and talking of how to go about implementing the NAIDS.They knew what an uproar it would create,so,they wanted to try to go about it in the most silent (sneakiest) way possible so's not to attract a whole lot of attention to it,until it was too late for citizens to do anything about it.

This has a whole lot of support from people that might surprise you. Many of the large equine organizations, including the American Horse Council, are in favor of NSIDS for horses.Go to www.libertyark.net and there find a great deal of useful information and what an individual can do to voice his/her opinion.I have contacted my state government officials and let them know my feelings, you can be sure.

Paul, this is a GREAT website. Thanks for the information. Not just for livestock owners, but for farmers, too, which we are.I was interested in the "Public Servant's Questionaire" that they mentioned under the Tech documents on the right hand margin of the page. They recommend that anyone make a person coming on their property asking questions about business, livestock, ect.fill out this form.Good idea! it seems  to operate on intimidation and ignorance of people, anyway,so,this would give them a taste of it.

CRG  I know the feds would like us to call and get permission to go to the bathroom......this has been around for a while and some people have been duped into registering their farms.....I am not going to do it voluntarily....nor am I going to microchip a $50 goat.....Some have suggested that this is really a plot to put small beef producers out of business.....don't think Tyson is going to microchip each chicken......if the feds get really pissy about it, I will tie the pony that dumped me 2x today to the federal courthouse door and they can microchip the beast.

I do not know much about NAIS but I do work for the federal government.  When I was in the Army it was the swine flue shot (just gave it to you to see the effect before it went public that was the way I looked at it).  Just like our president, the rest of the government wants to do wants it wants and the people will just take.  I seen this in the last two elections.  I still think it is time that people stand up and actually talk to their representative.  The lobbyist have lots of clout and also pushing this issue.  It is not Tyson, or the other big companies-they would lose lots of money and then have to raise their prices.  It is the companies that are producing these tags-they have lots of money to gain.  Also the congressman and senators want money for their district(s) will be looking at this.  The truth be told should not be here but where my congressman and senator is.  I will be writing them again and again until they either get tired of me or will listen.  Please forgive my soapbox message.

I am personally against ANYTHING the gov't does to restrict my freedoms and lifestyles.  However, in WI, Farm Premise ID is required.

The Wisconsin Livestock Premises Registration Act requires anyone who keeps, houses, or co-mingles livestock to register their premises.  Premises that are not currently licensed by the DATCP are required to register by January 1, 2006. Those premises currently licensed by the Department must register by their annual license renewal date.

And I grudgingly do it.  In addition, if you want to enter anything in the local county fair, you MUST provide a premise ID number.  With Wifey being on the 4H council and our horses being volunteered for the Horseless Horse project, I had no choice but to get my premise ID.

Here's some fun reading: http://www.wiid.org/resource/1145366259_FAQ%20Prem%20Reg%20%20NOV%20FINAL.pdf

Read the last two paragraphs.  I'm gritting my teeth.

Oh,yeah.Wisconsin was one of the first states to cram this down its' resident's unwitting throats.

The website Paul provided is excellent in that it also points out things of this nature that are being done to American farmers in general, such as by King Monsanto.Because of their dictates, farming and farmers in general as the keepers of farming are no longer able to save seed,a time honored and very effective practice.Another first step in the "state" controlling food production.

I think that was done for many years in a region known as the USSR??

Hank thanks for the infor.  Burned my bisquet on the third paragraph to the last-fines/fees.  I think I will be putting my animals close to a person who works for the NAIS, buy them a spy glass and they can watch anytime they want.  Work at home program.  LOL

Also like the testing the US Army did on it's own soldiers with the atomic bomb in mock battlefield conditions.  "how did we know that it would cause cancer?"

Going back NAIS.  People need a job, paycheck, a home.  If you were to talk to the people that have to do that job they might want to quit but what job would they have? This is not the USSR yet.  Most government workers don't have a voice, the rules just come up through the ranks.  Just like me, I work for the government.  Do I like everything, or support everything the government says "No."  Can I change things, I try my best to-sometimes it works-sometimes it doesn't.  Go ahead bash Department(s) but remember they do many things to keep us healthy and safe.  If it's wrong, yell consistently at them (not just one time but many).  If you do not want NAIS keep writing and yelling-your voices will be heard sooner/later.  The squeeky wheel effect.  Gosh!  I keep writing long messages, sorry!

In a perfect world we could eliminate 50% of the government, and pay the other 50% to sit on thier hands so they wouldn't cost me anything.

The government is there to protect me(strong military). And to serve me(roads, infrastructure). They cannot protect us from ourselves. They cannot provide us with everything to sustain ourselves.

You are guarenteed the pursuit of happieness, not happieness.

We have at least 500% to much government involvement in our lives.

I have no problem nor take any issue with the government workers or those who work for agencies that have to try to enforce some of the silliness that has been legislated.

What I DO take issue with is: the USDA itself cooking up such a blatant invasion of privacy and huge appropriation of taxpayer's money for such a stupid idea.

Well to put it in historical perspective...this originated as an answer to the MAD COW scare...It just was extended to an absurd extreme...

Gee...if we can track cows....why not track EVERYTHING!!!
