Wow! We had a terrific time at the dressage show in Shawnee Oklahoma last weekend. The ladies won lots of ribbons. The guys were able to break the tension with an occaisional cold beer.
The excitement really started on the way back to Texas:
One of the ladies had put wood shavings in her trailer to cushion the ride and soak up whatever falls to the floor of the trailer. About 30 miles south of Okla City the trailer burst into flames from a cigarette. Don't know if it was from a passing car or if one of the horses was smoking. When we saw the smoke we stopped but the horses were gone . . . apparently they fell out of the back of the trailer several miles earlier. We were almost stranded because we didn't have a directory to tell us where we could buy diesel and no one had a CB radio to call one of you and get directions to a truck stop.
We got going again and ran up to 95 mph on the downside of the Arbuckle Mountains because we didn't have a brake controller. You should have seen the truck pulling a pontoon boat that passed us at 130!
The good new is that we made it home before the trailer rusted apart!

At first I felt really bad when reading about your expereience, as I was one of the people that recommended putting sawdust down, but then I realized that the horses fell out of the trailer anyway, so that eased my pain. Of course your super-duper Blue Moon trailer survived the trip just fine, I bet they'll sell a lot more of those now. You know how that dressage crowd is, nothing but the best!

Ya know those horses all jumped out of that trailer as soon as the one horse dropped that cigarette, 'cuz they knew they was in serious trouble for smokin' in the boyz room!

Lily,
The rear doors must have opened when the hinges broke loose. You see, the hinges were bolted on . . . not welded on. Of course, the horses were not tied. I think they lowered the ramp and slid out. It was a miracle that they survived without breaking a leg! They are just fine: they wandered back to the stables on their own . . . 120 miles. Something happened while they were on the loose though; now they just want to run around barrels and trail ride. They don't seem to give a flip about dressage anymore.

Hey Ms Trailer - the Blue Moon trailer saga is a classic - do a search, grab a cold one, some munchies and enjoy. We ALL look forward to Rollin's stories.
Musta used a different trailer on the dressage trip as a Blue Moon trailer would never rust.... Keep the stories coming, Rollin.
