I am looking for an organized ride to go on in early October. We live in MO, and have done multiple ones here. I am interested in some either in northern Arkansas or around the Shawnee Forrest in Illinois. Anybody have any good suggestions? I have a LQ trailer and would want electric and prefer to have water on site. I'm interested in having meals and in the company/entertainment at night. Thanks!

Depending on the date in October you will probably find most of the campgrounds already booked. That is if it is around Columbus Day Weekend.Good Luck!

The only one I know of in Il is the One Horse Gap Ride: http://www.onehorsegap.com/

According to the web site: "As of November 19, 2010 there are no reservations available for the October 2011 ride"

they do have meals and guided rides or you can ride on your own.
Bob Buchanan and his wife own and run the ride. They are very nice folks.

Grow up. Buy some groceries, tack up. water up, and take off where you wanna go... If you want an organized ride that is catered, go to a Federal Prison. cowgirl/ or cowboy up and get out there, OR,  stay under the porch!

WOW, I agree that was very hostile.  We go once a year to an organized ride -- in Missouri so that doesn't help you.  But the rest of the year we ride where we want and cook what we want.  I don't mean to hijack your thread but that comment was really uncalled for.

You might check with Bar Fifty in Arkansas. They might have meals available.

You are absolutely right. I was very hostile. I am sorry. I admit I'm going thru "riding envy" while my husband, Fred Sanford (re: Sanford & Sons..) is welding his latest project, an Aqua therm wood furnace, together... One more huge piece of crap hauled in here... Now I'm hostile and whining- I am a big ole "B" too often.

Well, CJ, that's alright... you're awful good to sorta 'pologize....it has been so hot, and so miserable, we are all about ready to just screech ... some cooler weather, some hay and grass growing, some ridin'  ..... that's what we really need anyways :

Is Ozark Trail Ride at Mt. View (Timbo) still going?  Bob Roper had it... they did meals and whatnot....

Ozark Mountain Trail Ride

Timbo: This is a 5 day ride.
The camp is located between Mountain View Arkansas and Leslie Arkansas.
Turn off Hwy. 66 to 263 North at Timbo Arkansas, watch for sign and "TR" markers.

Our trails are mostly old logging roads through some of the most scenic country in the beautiful Arkansas Ozarks.
They are through rough country, but are safe for even the most inexperienced rider. The trails will take the riders across the Roasting Ear Creek and other streams.
Address: Ozark Mountain Trail Ride
Box 336, Mtn. View, Arkansas

Just stumpled over this little piece of info>

"Mack's Pines Store near the horse camp at Moccasin Gap

In the store at Mack's Pines near the horse camp at Moccasin Gap there is a paperback book for sale (about $10), that has every bit of horse trails in Arkansas. Each place has a description of the horse camp, trails, and facilities. The author also includes the nearest veterinarian, and other important information. A definite must have for trail riders!"

It's been a miserable summer, I'm boycotting the rest of it! We all need a break in the weather for sure!! Thank you everyone for your help, I will look into them! I go to CCTR in Eminence every year (usually twice a year, and I'm looking to try a substitute for October this year), and once a month go somewhere where I bring all my own supplies etc. I've hit quite a bit of places in MO over the last few years, and I was just lookin for something a lil different. I like a variety, so sometimes I will go where I don't see ANYONE for 3 days. It's an awesome break! I also occasionally like hitting a ride with new people to meet and activities to do. It's surprising there would be that few around that area, they are everywhere in MO!

Very nice CJ, I think we all understand having a bad day and OMG I can just picture what your going through with your "Fred Sanford" husband, I have one too!  I've had to eat crow before and it's not always pleasant but it is respectable so hats off to you for the apology and I hope you get to ride soon.

I with yall CJ! I hve been wanting to ride all summer but its been way to hot. Anyway decided we would go ahead & go to the Clinton Chuckwagon races nxt week. We decided this about 1 month ago & I was so excited I had a friggin heart attack on the 8th!!! Now doc says I can go IF I take it easy, ride only a few hrs a day, stay out of the heat & take my nitro everywhere I go, lmao! If any of u have been there then u know none of that is possible. So I have decided to go anyway & be as careful as possible. I NEED TO RIDE FOR MY SANITY!!! Anyone else going??

Oh yeah, we'll be there, at Southfork, the 2 good lookin red mules just back of Teddy's tack  in the corner !! With a white flatbed Ford and a white GN LQ... that'll sure narrow down the choices to a few thousand!

Lol; I get all the excitement I want here at home with these young horses. my Daughter eats and sleeps Chuckwagon Races and has tried to get me to go and I tell her she's nuts, got a lot of friends that go and some that work it and I ain't knocking it but I ain't goin.  I will say if your looking for a disorganized ride there's no better place.  Older I get the farther I like it from people.

Horsin123, I know you said IL or AR, but here is a ride being held at Land Between the Lakes in KY that is not full and it is close to the Shawnee, but the dates might not be good for you, this is the last week in September.

http://sheltoweetrailride.homestead.com/

The ride manager says there won't be water and electricity at every site, but possibly you can make arrangements to have one of the sites that does. You can call Roland and get all the details.

This will be our first time in the South, but we have attended a number of Appaloosa Horse Club rides in the West and they have been great.
