Which Kiefer, steel or aluminum? If it's a Genesis I'd go with the Kiefer hands down, but I am a biased Kiefer 8083 owner. One of the best warranties in the industry.

SUNDOWNER all the way! Would not think twice about it! Down around here all of the Kiefer Built that I looked at before buying the Sundowner all had some sort of door, window problems. I did see some older model steel Kiefer's that looked ok.

As you can see from your replies that they are both very popular trailers. This is my second Kiefer. My friend has a Sundowner and I have a Kiefer. We love our trailers and have had no problems from them. We camp and ride a lot, almost 10 months of the year. Her Sundowner is one foot longer and weights almost 1400 lbs more than mine. That is the major difference. We have the same size living quarters. If weight is important with the truck you are using to pull with, I would check out the empty weight as we did ours. Regardless, I think you will be most happy with either trailer.

Sundowner workmanship is by far superior to Keifer,(please check this out for yourself). If the Sundowner is all aluminum and has a bigger LQ for the same price, choose the Sundowner. (I'm not a dealer)

What you pulling these trailers with. I've pulled sundowners and they are heavy, sundowner is the last trailer I would buy. I didn't like the sundowner, but at same time I am looking at buying a Kiefer because I think they are a better trailer.

We are leaning towards the Kiefer, because it is two feet shorter, the stalls are 1" wider, and the dealer is in a close town. The Sundowner would be coming here (MA) from Florida and we don't have a local Sundowner dealer. The closest one is in RI. I wish I liked the interior of the Kiefer better. I think the Sundowner has a nicer LQ. Not so boxed in. Keep those comments coming!
Those who are shouting Sundowner, have you ever been in a Kiefer or do you just love your Sundowner? I admit, they really are nice.

I'm deciding between two equally priced 3 horse, living quarters trailers with equal features on both. I'd love some opinions.
This doesn't really make sense. When you have 1 that has a 3' larger LQ you are not even comparing the same trailer. Not equal feature's in my mind The sundowner sounds like a better buy. If you like the Kiefer size better you have a great negotiating tool to get them to come lower on price with the Sundowner as your backup.

brew26 What Kiefer are you looking at or for?
I a looking at a kiefer Genesis 4 horse with an 8ft short wall. I go to a lot of rodeo's and having somewhere to sleep, cook, shower and what not is really nice to have after long day in the driver seat or in the dust.

Brew26- I bought a Kiefer Genesis 8083 last fall and we are extremely happy with it, except for one thing. The swing out saddle racks were not made for big saddles. I have to adjust the saddles before I can swing them out. I talked to the factory about it, and since I am only about 70 miles away, they want to see it and could probably do a modification. They said they had not encountered the problem before, but want to make the best product out there and are always making improvements. I think you would get along well with a Kiefer.

I am on my 2nd Kiefer LQ trailer. My current one is 8'6" wide with a 10'LQ, all aluminum. And it is now 5 years old. It came new with the 3/8 factory warranty. I have had NO major problems at all. When it was in the 3 year bumper-bumper warranty, I had some tire issues. Kiefer replaced all 4 of my tires with Goodyear G6s. I had a water leak in one of my manger doors. Kiefer replaced both manger doors with newer, better manger doors. Kiefer stands behind their trailers! A sundowner friend that I show with had a leaky rear door (rear tack side). Sundownder dealer basically told her to deal with it.
Don't get me wrong, an all aluminum Sundowner is a GREAT trailer. But, to me they charge way to much for the product and service they offer. There are many GREAT trailers out there. I like and appreciate the fact that Kiefer is a GREAT company to deal and get along with!

Don't get me wrong, an all aluminum Sundowner is a GREAT trailer. This is kinda funny, I just bought a 04 SUNDOWNER 8010 Signature Series last Dec. as a repo and I posted a few questions on here and was amazed at the response I got from SUNDOWNER DEALERS, my local dealer did all of the service work on it in Feb to get it ready to haul and he checked out EVERY single item and even went over all of the equipment and options it had to make sure we knew how to work everything. He has even called since to make sure everything was going well. Talk about GREAT SERVCIE and standing behind a product even though we did not buy it from him!
Sundowner does have a way better interior package than Kiefer. Just remember since you are buying a LQ trailer you will more than likely be seeing and using the inside as much as the outside. Better to buy a little better quality up front than having to upgrade stuff later. Been there done that! You might check the stall size again, if I remember right mine has 42" stalls and most others we looked at had anything from 37.5" to 40" stalls. Also like someone else said, you need to compair the smae trailers size for size and option for option!

Yes, the dealer (no matter what the brand) is an essential part of the whole equation. I can't believe I forgot to mention that!! If you deal with a bad dealer, you get dealt a bad deal.
My dealer was Select Trailers in Shelbyville, TN. IMO, one of the best dealers in the country.

That's what's weird...on the website, they boast 42" stalls, but on the specs for the one we're looking at (8 feet wide, 3 horse, 11 foot LQ) it says 39".
