Was interested in people's experiences with US Rider.  I got to have one this past weekend.  How did ya'll get treated?  Was it a fast response time, friendly/helpful people, etc., etc?

Had it for years.  The only time I wanted to use it, I couldn't because I didn't realize the emergency phone number is ONLY on the membership card, which was locked into my truck along with my keys.  It isn't even listed on their website, so if you break down when their business office is closed you're screwed!

I didn't know at the time that if I'd had a professional come unlock it I could have submitted the bill... so some friends broke into it for me and broke the window latch on the back pop-out window.  USR would not reimburse for that fix... but it only came to $7 so I was fine with it.  MORAL OF THE STORY IS write the number somewhere you can get it OUTSIDE of your truck... maybe keep it somewhere in the trailer, or write it on the window sticker.

We just got it a couple of months ago, have not had to use it yet. A friend of my better half also has it and she has used it 1 time and they was to her in less than 20 mins!

I think it is a cheap insurance policy, since my better half goes with her friends most of the time and could not change a tire if her life depended on it. LOL
Before, anytime she had a problem she would call me even though I would be HOURS away.

Sharon, I remembered your story and went out and I wrote their number under the gooseneck on our trailers and inside the trucks tailgate with a "Magic Marker". Got them on the "speed dial" also.

I'm a member but I have never used them, but... had a friend break down near Charlottesville, Va. on their way to Louisville, Ky. It was a rainy Sunday morning with a loaded eight horse Horton trailer being pulled by a 3500 Cummins Dodge with a "smoked" clutch.... I made the call from here at my house. USR sent a crew out to help these folks that weren't even members.... They sent a tandem axle rollback. A F-550 wrecker and another MDT with a goosneck hitch. All at the same time!!! They seperated the truck and trailer, pulled the loaded trailer back to the farm in Suffolk, Va. Dropped the 3500 Dodge off at the Dodge dealer in Suffolk and got all the people back to the barn in Suffolk. They were broken down on the shoulder of I-64, they had help from USR within one hour of the time I made the call. Va. state troopers were on the scene almost the entire time.

I have never quite figured out why these folks that were broke down called me, hadn't talked to them in a year or three, must have figured the I know some folks on HTW!!!

That's great, if you have the trailer with you when you need the phone number.  Might want to write it somewhere on the truck too.  Mine is on the window sticker... looks awful because I had to write it backwards for it to show through the window.  But at least I can read it.

I find that very interesting!  I talked to someone very high up at USR about my complaint, and he told me the reason the number is only on the membership card is b/c they don't want anyone calling who isn't a member.    Now, I realize that you are a member and you were the one who called, but you weren't there.  According to their written policies, if you'd been there they wouldn't have had any issues with it... but since you weren't there, they didn't have to provide any services.  Did your friends have to pay anything, like maybe buy a membership before USR would help them??

Yep, I think they probably gave them a credit card number over the phone.... They would have given them that Dodge truck just to get those eight Arabians off the shoulder of I-64!!!

In my previous Post I had forgotten that I have the number written inside the tailgate.

The one time I have needed them the service was excellent. They towed my C4500 without complaint (didn't have the trailer along on that trip). The towing alone for that size truck would probably have cost me twice the yearly membership fee. The lady kept calling back to be sure the tow truck had arrived. Can't say enough about the service.

I'm off to add their number to my cell phone now...hadn't thought of it before. Is the # on the sticker they give you to put on your trailer? I'm thinking it's probably there as well.

I have used them once with a flat tire on the trailer....couldn't get the lug nuts loose, and twice for a breakdown with my personal car. I have the emergency number and my membership number laminated (in big print) and taped to the underside of the gooseneck. It is protected from weather, and if I have locked purse, keys, etc., in cab of truck, I always have the number handy. Service has been excellent. If you do a search, you will find lots of responses of a previous discussion on this topic. As a another post stated..."wouldn't leave home without it!"

You would think so, but no, it's not there.  The only place they put it is on your membership card.

I've been a member since 2002. I have used them several times and have always been satisfied. Money well spent. My LQ trailer has 17.5 's on them and I just can't manage changing a tire anymore.  I just make the call and let the pros do it. It is also good for all my vehicles including my cars. It is definately a MUST have!

I have been a member for a couple of years and fortunately I have never had to use them. I put the number in my cell phone because I remember the post about someone needing them and not having the number. Pretty much my phone is always on me so hopefully I will have the number if I need it. I like that they will come to a "member" whether the vehicle you are in is yours or not and it doesn't have to be a horse related incident!

I have used em once, and so has my husband, ..... quick, polite, and followed up on us to make sure everything was being handled ok, and even called the next day to verify all was well.  They ARE our roadside assistance service.  I have their phone # and my membership # both in the cell, as well as written various places.  A good place is with all your vehicle's registration and proof of insurance folder.

I've called them three times and actually only needed to use them twice.  the service was excellent each time.

Recently I drove into some sugar sand and my truck was stuck with the trailer at a remote camping area.  I called and while giving directions to the tow truck driver, some guys were standing by and they said "no problem, little lady, we'll get you out we've got 4 wheel drive".  True to their word they had my rig out in 2 minutes, so I cancelled the call.

Several friends have US Rider and have had great success with them.  I highly recomend them.  The first question they ask is "do you have your horses with you and are you safe?"  they will find a place for your horses if needed and will tow the whole rig.  AAA won't tow your trailer - so forget them.

US Rider all the way

I have had USR for about 3 years now. The one time I blew a tire on I-75 in Ocala, Fl there was a major issue getting a service truck. I forget what the problem was exactly. We ended up changing the tire ourselves (this was a 3 chick outing..LOL). Between us, we got it done. I went to meet a friend to ride in Ocala a few weeks ago and when I got out of the truck and walked by the trailer it was hissing...now, it should not be hissing. Turns out I had a screw in the tire. It took them a total of about 2 hours to get a service truck there but I wasn't in a hurry....called them while I was finishing up my ride and had lunch when I got back. Seems they were having difficulty locating me even though I gave clear directions. I never thought to give GPS co-oridinates. Oh well, live and learn. The folks at USR were very professional and concerned both times so, I have no real issue with their service. I figured I could change the second tire myself but that's what I pay for the service for. Later, I realized that I did not have the proper size lug wrench for the smaller trailer so would have been SOL anyhow changing it myself. I have since fixed that issue. The service guy had never seen a Trailer Aid before. I told him it would be much faster than trying to jack it up. Went very smoothly.

The main thing I learned is to never blow a tire in Ocala!

My friend blew a tire on their motor home in Sarasota, Fl...USR was there quickly to help them with that. Just a few days ago they were on their way to the Key's towing their boat when a Trooper flagged them down. Seems the hitch was coming off of the motor home and hanging. USR towed both to a shop and they were back on their way in about 3 hours.

Get USR, it's worth it.

No, they were trying to find a service truck but there was some issue with service trucks being down and a convention or some such silly thing....just my luck. They are more than happy to help people on I-75 in Fl. Matter of fact, the nice man that changed my second tire had just finished up doing a semi tire on I-75 and someone threw a beer bottle out of their window and just missed hitting him...That's one reason you sure do not want to be there long!

I had US Rider for 2 years.  I only needed the service once, when I locked my purse, keys, cell phone in the truck at a show.  I called US Rider and they sent someone out within the hour.   I had written their phone # with a sharpie on the sticker that I placed on my truck window and my trailer.

Regretfully, I let my membership go this year for economic reasons. As a concession, I just bought a "Trailer Aid" to keep in the trailer.  I hope to resume my US Rider membership in the future.

I signed up for US Rider when I started hauling to shows out of state regularly, and then dropped AAA completely when I found out they wouldn't cover my husband's E450 cube van.  Can't remember what the issue was, the 450 classification being commercial, not changing tires on a dually, but it some something significant.  2 of our 3 vehicles are diesel duallys and US Rider seems better equipped to deal with the bigger rigs.  No brainer choosing between AAA and US Rider since AAA won't tow a horse trailer and US Rider will find a facility for your horses if its needed.   Doesn't cost much more to have US Rider than it does to have AAA with the RV Plus coverage which is as good as it gets for dealing with bigger rigs.

I can't say enough good things about USR.  I've gotten a couple of friends to sign up when I got into trouble with my horse trailer two years ago.  They were witness to USR service excellence

Like ALL road service clubs, USR depends on contracted haulers to provide service.  Sometimes there just isn't a contracted provider in your area.  That was my predicament. ... No provider in the hills of southern Virginia.

That wasn't a major problem.  With some help from the locals, we told USR who to contact.  USR then called them and sent them to us.

This is what USR sent to winch us out.. Notice the Horse trailer... AAA won't touch it...

Yes we have had them about one year and are planning on re-newing our policy.  They sent a similar wrecker to the one in the picture to haul us home last weekend when our truck died on GA 400.  They even called several times that evening to see how the tow was going and when we arrived home.  The tow truck driver was very cautious and got us and horses all home safely.
