Thanks, Do you know what kind or how much you paid for it? I had a queen foam mattress with a topper on it. I did not know if a company specilized in trailer mattress. I looked at a company on line, but they went out of business.

I got a 3 inch memory foam topper from Overstock.com for $130.00 Haven't slept on it yet but am looking forward to it. The mattress that came with the trailer was hard as a rock. The topper has got to be an improvement.

I am not sure if you were asking me but the topper was $130 for any size. I got the queen topper for a full size mattress because I had read that the toppers ran smaller than actual mattress size. The topper I purchased was 3 inches thick and came with memory foam pillows. Overstock.com had all types of both toppers and mattresses and the shipping was only $2.95.

We have a local mattress shop where we live and I had one made for our last trailer. He said my measurements were for an RV short queen. It was around $300 I think, but worth having a real mattress to sleep on.

If you can wait until Monday I can get you a number of a company here in Ft.Worth that makes mattress for Conversion Companies. We had one custom made for the Sooner we had in 2004, the Conversion Company wanted almost $500. for one, I we paid just over a $100. for ours and I had it made to cover the entire nose.... When I picked it up is when I found out that this company makes them for Conversion Companies. They seen the name on the back of the trailer and said "we send them mattresses all the time"!
They will make any size and or shape you want.....

I am using the topper over the mattress that came with the trailer. I have allergies, so everything I sleep on is covered with an allergy cover. (I get these at Wally World.) Then I just put regular sheets over the allergy cover. I haven't slept on the topper yet (haven't been any where in the trailer for over a month uuuggghhh). I would think the topper would work great under a sleeping bag. Having said that, the memory foam is heavy so I am not sure how easy it would be to use for "packing" in somewhere.

Be careful on getting a mattress or topper too thick as the ceiling hurts in the morning. Our last trailer was 7' tall and the mattress we had made was thicker than the original. You only have to bang the ceiling a couple of times to remember to be careful.

We just used flat sheets on ours. I ordered the one custom made for the nose because at that time the better half, my daughter and her daughter was the only 3 going and the Sooner was only a 7'sw with a SMALL sofa sleeper, so using it to sleep on was out of the question.

I have a topper from Overstock which really helped the mattress in the house; then I got a memory foam mattress from Overstock and it is great. Also got the down feather beds for the trailers. I would think a mattess from Overstock would be quite good as the one we have came compressed with a cover already on it so that it could be put in place then unwrapped. Just a thought and what has worked for us.

I'm not packing it any where. Just put it up in the bunk of the Gooseneck and leave it. And the reason I'm considering just the foam is the trailer I have now is 7' tall and I don't want to get a normal 6" - 8" thick standard mattress. I thought a 3" thick foam would save my forehead a few blows.
And I use sleeping bags in the trailer for several reasons. It's rarely me and my wife that share the bunk. It's usualy me and daughters or me and hunting buddies. So the sleeping bags offer each party some privacy in their sleep. Also a lot of the mountains that I ride, get pretty cold. even in the summer. I've gotten up many a morning in July and found ice on the horses water bucket. Since this trailer doesn't have any type of a LQ (just a DR) . It's just one step above a tent for camping.
I ordered one of those Serta foam toppers off Overstock. We will give it a try.

This is exactly what I was thinking. If I could find a thin mattress that was comfortable I would go with that. Part of the reason mattresses are so thick is to get the surface of the bed up to a comfortable sitting height, but in the nose of a LQ trailer that is not an issue, in fact thinner would be better if it were still comfortable.

The one we bought is a thin three inch memory foam mattress. We bought it a year ago so I don't know if walmart still stocks these. I am able to use regular sheets too.

I use a queen sized mattress from a sleep sofa. I used to pull the mattress out of the sleep sofa in my family room, but a friend was getting rid of a sofa that had a broken arm. The mattress was never used - still in the plastic. It's about 4 inches think. You can buy a replacement mattress for a sleep sofa from any mattress retailer for less than $200.

remember if you have cabinets in front of your mattress, that you don't get your mattress so high that you can't get into those cabinets. We had that happen in our that last trailer. We could only get into those cabinets by pulling the mattress back 18", than try to get up there with the mattress hanging out 18" over the step to get up there. Lost a lot of storage space because of that.

I ordered a memory foam mattress from overstock. It is a sleeper sofa mattress and is only 4 inches thick. Can't beat the price and shipping is only $2. It feels great and fits nicely in the gooseneck area, plus it only being 4 inches thick means more head room.

I hope to upgrade to a "real" foam mattress this year for my 7' tall GN, but for now I'm using a 4"-thick / 24"-wide strip of craft foam that I bought for around $36 a few years ago at JoAnne Fabrics. It's just me sleeping up there, so why not? I can even turn it sideways if I want to sleep with the window next to my head.

Another possibility to consider is a futon. They are very comfortable and come in many different sizes that will fit in a gooseneck. I've got one and I love it. If you go the air mattress route, make sure you put something to insulate you from it...air mattresses will transfer the cold air to you during cold weather!!
Here is a place online that will custom cut foam for you to whatever size you need for your gooseneck at pretty reasonable prices.
