Fixing to get rid of 18 sw and go to a 9 sw. For those that have a slide do you have any regrets about getting it? I want to get one since I'm getting that small of a sw cuz I'm so tired of lugging a BIG, heavy older trailer around and a lot of times I'm by myself and not that great of a driver. My husband is very adamant about NOT getting it (so says the man that doesn't like getting any extras on vehicles either cuz it "just something else to breakdown"). We go to trail rides about 10 to 15 or so weekends a year. His point is we are never in the trailer except to sleep -- we are either riding, sitting around campfire, or in the bar with friends. Since he won't go with me looking and I'm gonna get what I want anyway just wondering if I need to worry much about problems with them and having to hear "I told you so" for many years down the road. Looking at 2014 or 2015 Lakota. Thanks for any input. Sandra

The slide in such a small lq will make a HUGE difference. Even making coffee in the morning when you have to walk over or around another person makes for a tense start to the day!

It's my guess that your husband is the only one who is just sleeping in the trailer. Have him make the coffee and do the cooking from now on. That way you will be the one who is saying "I told you so" :)

I've had both and the slide is just like anything else, there are good ones and cheap ones. Some are hydraulic and some are cable operated. Just look them over good and you will see the difference. If the slide sags when extended, it is probably going to leak. Get a well made one and you will like it.

My only point relates to the 9' sw. I've not seen a 9' sw with a slide that had any storage. Thet 16" or so of closet you lose with a slide is usually the only closet in a trailer that small. So more closet- or slide. But not likely both.
Personally- I think a well laid out 9-10' sw in a 8' wide without a slide is one of the best overall balances of floorplan I've seen. And definitely less long term maintenance expense.

A slide in a 9' SW is going to be tough to floorplan. A slide less than 6.5', IMO, is tough to make it worthy. Our local LQ shop did a 5' slide in a 9' SW a few years ago and it, to me, was a waste. Was a bench and small table that slid.
Problem becomes the floor plan. If a seperate bathroom is wanted, than to get anything more than a 5.5' slide, the bathroom must slide also. That can be done, but limits the plumbing, locations of appliances, etc. Also, one can not access the bathroom with the slide in if the bathroom slides also as the slide slides into the door.
It is really cool as the bathroom than becomes hugh but tradeoffs can be a problem at times.

What year is your Lakota and size sw? That's the trailer I'm thinking of getting. Looked at 11sw but once I measured total box just don't want that long. If it's really new can you get to bathroom really easily with slide NOT open -- as in quick pull over on side of road to go.

I have a 2012 1/2. Yeah I know, Lakota does half year upgrades. It is a 15ft SW. We have 8ft wide also. It is a little bigger than you are looking for but I think that would make the slide even more of a benefit.

I have a 1998 Featherlite 4-H with a 9' SW and a 6' slide. This has been a great trailer and I have had no problems with the slide - just have to grease the rails a couple of times a year. It has never leaked. We bought this trailer after my son was born, because I needed more room for him and his stuff. The slide made a huge difference! I now have it for sale on here, because he stays home with his dad now.
