White Lightning http://www.grandcircuitinc.com/products.asp?cat=White+Lightning treats very well. Be advised that treatment may also consist of debridement and supportive shoeing depending on the severity. Bleach should never be used in direct form on the equine digit. White Lightning is a gas that reaches areas fluids will not. Plenty of articles on the website.

I would suggest using a product that was formulated for what you are treating. vet's, scientest, lab techs, all work together to make the product. Chances are if your horse has it now it will get it again. Buy something even if you have to order it and wait a week for it to get to you. I have used home remadies in a pinch until something came in the mail. Bleach is a caustic.. yes it will kill everything but also kills the good things your horse needs to help fight whiteline.

my farrier says this year is awful for white line disease and such, its been so wet.
she used the white lightening stuff and is having me followup with "hot nail", a super strong iodine solution that can get under the shoe. fingers crossed!
I'd be hesitant to use acetone (nail polish remover) or anything else that dries...as the hoof dries the wall is more likely to pull away especially if its weakened from the fungus/bacteria that cause white line disease (and seedy toe and thrush)

Not that the information above is not useful, the disease description is particularly so, but the treatment protocols are 10 years ago or better....White Lightening has been useful, as has prescription strength Eclipse wound wash soaks...some of these treatments utilized now have been developed since a decade ago.... good luck with it......keeping the horse in a dry environment for the hooves is very helpful, also...

What I meant to finish in that post
Gentian Violet is a main ingredient in several topical medicines, not all exactly labeled for the hoof. Look at types of blue lotion etc at your farm store, or on the link below... all of your "treatments" will be greatly aided by the hoof wall being excised or re-sectioned to the point that it gets to healthy non-diseased hoof wall...sometimes this can be extensive, and supportive measures will have to be done by the farrier to enable the hoof to continue to function without deformity as the new healthy hoof grows down. Sometimes a person will use only a soak or potion, and the part that they can see looks much better, but the problem is that WLD undermines and extends up on the inside of the hoof wall where you can't see, and the medicine can't get to, and the problems continue to grow out of sight. Good luck with yours...

Flying H Farm knows what she is talking about! Her hubby does a good job on all of our horses and mules. We have battled white line the last year, also. The special trim Grady does has really helped ours!
