I need to make a repair to my gray water tank which will require gluing abs to pvc. From what I can tell from some internet searched PVC or ABS glue will work for this? Maybe not recomended but it's my only option.

You can't just stay with ABS? Menards carries ABS of most sizes and the fittings. If you don't have a menards around, I'm sure any RV dealer/shop carries it or can order it.
Lowes carries a glue that claims to bond ABS, PVC, and CPVC. I think the label is red and white. Never used it to bond the ABS and PVC surfaces together, but it works well on ABS applications and PVC applications.
Bonding PVC and ABS tends to leak at the joint after a while.

I guess I am just being cheap. I have a friend with lots of 3" PVC that I can use, I need an 8" piece of straight pipe but the shortest piece I can find of ABS is 10' and it cost $40.

I have used the multi purpose cement to connect ABS and PVC. In a stationary situation it will hold but I don't think it is a strong enough connection to hold up in a trailer connection due to the vibration and movement. If you are joining ABS to PVC pipe, you may want to look at a no hub connector, it is rubber with clamps and doesn't require glue.

Most RV dealers sell it by the foot. Around here anyway. Menards has 3" ABS in 10' sections for like $7 and 1 1/2" 10' sections for $4.66. I know you don't need that much, but its cheaper than $40. I did have to use one of those rubber flex joints on my bathroom install and it seems to be doing well. If you don't have the ABS option, I would definitely look into a couple of these..

Thanks for the replies, the Menards here doesn't carry ABS except for a few small pieces but I called the RV dealer and they will sell smaller pieces so I am going to stay with ABS.
