Hi Everyone,
Just got a 2006 Cimarron Norstar Goosneck. It is 20.5 feet on the floor and the gooseneck is 8.5 feet long and 8 foot wide and tapers slightly to the nose. It is very nice and big. I pull it with my 2003 F350.
Two questions:
1 Where/What mattress do I get. I was thinking going to Costco or Ikea and getting a firm foam mattress. Is this a good idea?

I replaced my camper mattress with a 4" memory foam from Walmart. So far, I like it. Just measure the area, and take that with you. I found the memory foam types do not measure standard "double" or "Queen". So knowing how much space you have to work with would be helpful IMO.

If it's just you sleeping in the nose, then I'd go with a regular full size matress as sheets are cheaper. But if you will be sharing the bed, then opt for the queen. You'll appreciate the extra space. You shouldn't an issue fitting a queen in an 8 foot wide trailer.
We bought a queen seally posterpedic matress from a discount mattress business. It was new and only cost us $75. It's better a matress than what I have in the house. I want comfort after riding all day. Also in cold climates a matress helps shield some of the cold transfer from under the gooseneck. I use a heated matress pad now.

We got a 4 inch foam mattress from walmart...it was a little hard so we put a couple toppers on too...now its just perfect....and we got a king size...and I cut it to fit with scissors...now the whole thing is sleeping space! Its better than at home!

Consider head room too. That 14' THICK, fluffy, pillowtop could make sitting up in bed a real "headache" And getting into bed an exercise similar to belly crawling in a cave.

get the thickest one you have room for. we got a queen size (day bed??) mattress. it isn't very thick - 4" maybe? but I thought I'd like that size for the extra head room in the gooseneck. first time we used it we could feel the springs... so I ended up using a couple horse coolers plus a foam pad on top of it.

I took a brand new queen size mattress out of a sleep sofa that a friend was getting rid of. It's only about 4" thick so I don't have issues with head space. I insulated the gooseneck section of the trailer when I built in the DYI weekender package so the cold is not a problem either. I found the memory foam made me "overheated" at night.

We had an 06 Cimarron Norstar and found there is so much taper at the nose that only a full size mattress would fit in it. We didnt actually try a queen, but I dont think it could of been jammed in.

I have a memory foam and love it. Suggestion: A piece of insulation foam board under the mattress helps a lot in cold weather, even in a fully finished LQ.

When I needed a new mattress for the LQ..I went and got something cheap as I figured I only use it a few days a month...big mistake.Even if I go to two shows a month thats at least 4 nights of torture and thats 4 too many. This spring..i want a good mattress and will pay a bit more for the comfort. Measure the area and then find something that will fit and buy a good mattress....your welcome!

We replaced our so called Queen mattress that came in our trailer with a new 4" firm foam mattress. We got it from JC Penny's. We have had it about 3 or 4 years now and really like it.

I bought a 4" memory foam mattress from Overstock.com
If it's too big, they are easy to cut to fit the shape of the area you have. I sewed up a slip cover from some old sheets. I ride alot with my daughters or hunting buddies, So we sleep in sleeping bags, So getting sheets and bedding to fit wasn't a big deal for me. Just more something to keep the foam clean and something that I could pull off and wash as needed.

My grandfathers old sleeper sofa was worn out, but the plastic was still on the mattress that was used about 4-5 times ever so I kept it for when I got a gooseneck. Well it fit perfect! There are about 3" on each side of my mattress and it goes almost to the edge of the sleeping area. Not to thick or thin. Just right!
