Have read the different posts on Kanopolis State Park, KS and thought we would try it (since the price of diesel has spoiled our SD trip this year). Does anyone know if you can make reservations there? Really, don't want to haul from SW MO to there and find no space available. IF reservations are able to be made, which camp and how do we contact? Any info is appreciated. Thanks

Yes, you can call the ranger station to make reservation, however there is an extra charge for making it. As far as campsites go, depends on what you want. Primitive, water only or water and electric. Pipe corrals are first come, first served. In addition to the campsite fees you will need to purchase a Kansas Park Permit. Here is the webpage for Kanopolis: http://www.kdwp.state.ks.us/news/state_parks/locations/kanopolis
I would plan on going late fall. The area is wide open and will be very hot in the summer months, and I heard there can be fire-weed/nettles along some of the trails too.
We just got back from there a few weeks ago. Very pretty. Check-out some of the area attractions while you are there and don't forget your fishing pole!
