Does anyone take along  any kind of snake repellent when they camp?

I had read some old posts about how bad the CopperHeads were at Bandy Creek

Campground.  The few times last year that we rode at Big South Fork we saw

ALOT of snakes, mostly RattleSnakes.

I usually keep one round of bird shot in my 44 mag.  I've rarely needed it.  Usually just give the snakes some room and they will move off.

Got that covered.    I am thinking about something that you could spread or sprinkle outside your trailer door, like moth balls.  If you were to  get up in the middle of the night to check the horses and you step out on a snake.  We were told to wear boots all the time especially in camp.  They said the copperheads would strike low.  I thought there must be something that you could spread around your campsite to keep them away.

I have tried the moth ball thing and it didn't work. At least on rat snakes here in TX. I have also tried snake repellent powder fromTSC didn't work also. Snakes are eating chicken eggs. Egg yield goes way down in the summer cause of the snakes. This year snake count will go way down. It may work on other snakes though.

My sister lived in Tennessee and she told me about lye.  She said they do not like it on their scales.  So she put lye around their place.  No snakes - she had to since she wanted me to go see her.  I can't stand snakes - but like people who do.
