What you want to consider when buying an Exiss is whether it is an "Event" or "Sport" model. Most purchasers who use their trailers hard, prefer the "Event" models. There are decals on the rear doors and beside the entrance door that designate which model it is. The heavier axles are used on the "Event" and are quickly identified by an eight bolt wheel instead of a six bolt style.

Many Exiss are not equipped with an escape door on the first stall. This apparently was an option not purchased by many owners. It is something you may want to weigh. You cannot use the pass through door as an escape door when you are loading the first horse.

Pull the mats, check the flooring especially on the butt side. Check all the latches, hinges, doors, windows and underneath at the frame and axle mounts.  Make sure the brakes work, and evaluate the tires' condition. Inspect all the individual components of the interior for operation etc. Look at the mechanical issues first, the pretty parts second.

I hope you enjoy your trailer, we certainly enjoy ours.

The photo shows a cap over wheels that is 8 lugs, it does have an escape door.  The window in that door does not drop down.  Im not sure how wide it is?

Sounds as if you found a good one. Our trailer is 7' wide, 7 1/2' tall. Hope it works out for you.

My Exiss has a 4' wall and a weekender LQ package. It weighs less than yours. (empty 5700) I doubt if there would be much more than a 500# difference. Approximately 25% of the trailer's weight is on the hitch.(1600#?) I think your axles are at least 5200#. You shouldn't have any problem pulling with your truck. Hope hubby doesn't get too much snow.

On Exiss' website, the XT/SS is listed as an Event. The Sport is the ES.I'm not sure that the Sport was manufactured by Exiss in 2001.

There is no 306 XT 3H listed on their website, however, the XT 308 3H GN is listed as having 7000# rubber torsion axles.

We have a 2000 Exiss event SS/300 and it came with the 5200# axles.  I sat down and did the Math one day and even when our trailer is loaded up with our three big head horses and everything but the kitchen sink, we were still well under the axle rating.

We've been really happy with our trailer, I hope you enjoy your new trailer. :D

all I can add is that one of my closest friends was once an Exiss dealer and got out of them because they had too many issues. The main one being that they are known for leaking.

Mandy ALL trailers leak when they first come from the manufacturer.  It is up to the dealership to check them when they come in.  A good dealer will do this, a bad dealer just plots them on the lot and lets you deal with it.

yeah, buddy, here we go!!!!

The Exiss, CM, and Sundowner, that are here have not ever leaked since we have had them.  We have trailers here that are, 1995, 1996, 1997 and 2001 (the Exiss) and none of them leak,... oh the 96 is a Titan I am keeping for a relative who is badly injured and will be down for many months.... none of these were new when they came to be here, so who knows who did the final inspection and prep//// oh, I suppose that is why it is called DEALER prep!!!

Good luck with your new-to-you trailer, I know you are excited!  I hope you have as much enjoyment and satisfaction out of yours as we do! Proud for ya!

Sounds like you found a nice trailer. The Sport models were not in production in 2001, so I don't think you have to worry about that issue. Every manufacturer has problems, but I think the key is how they are handled by the dealer group.

Good luck and have fun with your "new-to-you" trailer!

Too many to count. Don't people have a better thing to do with their time? Go name a post Exiss and spend the afternoon kicking it. We'll all feel better

We checked out Exiss trailers in 1999/2000 they where CHEAPEST trailers out than. When husband looked under trailer and seen how far apart floor joints where he laughed and than also noticed how up close and in person trailer welds etc windows and drop down doors where we knew was cheap trailer made cheap as could be.SORRY that is why after we looked at them in person and orthers we know wouldnt think of throwing money after trailer that should last years and years. Not saying thats still how they're made HOPE not.Just how we seen 5 on lot in IL.They were all new and we knew we would really need trailer to hold up as we do use or trailer more than once month or ten times year.We travel alot and run state to state to camp and trail ride.Hope your trailer is a good- well built one and not close to anthing like we seen them sale few years ago.Sorry facts are FACTS seen too many and heard too many sad stories over this brand of trailers.Sorry you aked for what to LOOK OUT FOR....Bison is also on bottom of list.

So, how far apart were the floor joists, exactly, that hubby saw?  And what is the exact spacing on what you have now?  You never owned an Exiss for personal experience whether it held up for you or not... but the technical info, precise, would be nice to know..

Right, and Mrs. Paint, not everybody can afford to run out here and own a Bloomer,4Star,ect. either.People have to do what they have to do.What's good to you might not be good to somebody else, you might see a post that I made on ANOTHER Exiss thread about a (rich) friends' 4Star,Hart,and Bloomer trailers also.

Besides, the OP has already purchased the trailer, and she said that it was what she was looking for. So,why try to knock what she and others evidently prefer?

Amazing had to wait for 6' snow drifts to get this trailer out!!!  It is now home in my back yard!!!  It is just wonderful, and was custom made with 7000 ib axles!   A couple of problems I plan on fixing: The LQ door is horribly hard to open, (Any suggestions?) rubber Door holders need replaced, vinyl floor in LQ needs resealed, Drop down windows are hard to open? Cabinet frames are not solid oak. Not sure how the heat tape in AC works? Plan on cleaning outside aluminum any hints?

This really is the size we were looking for!  Its a beautiful trailer!

I'm so glad you are pleased with your purchase of an EXISS trailer, yes,I have one,and I love mine.

For cleaning the outside,I have had a lot of experience with this type of thing, and the best thing, really, that I have found, and I have no interest personally in the products other than their use,is the Streakmaster Aluminum cleaner and Streak remover that is advertised on this website.

Congratulations on your "new" trailer. With six feet of snow, I wouldn't be too anxious to start working on it yet.

Sticking doors can be caused by a few problems. Check the obvious first, see if everything is straight and not bent. How do the doors and windows fit into their frames? If that checks out, get a can of spray lubricant, wd-40, lps etc and a can of silicone spray. Lube all the hinges and latches with the lubricant, coat all the door and window edges with the silicone. Also spray it into the sliding window tracks. Anything mechanical gets cranky sitting around and not being used.

Clear silicone caulk will work on the flooring edges, very few cabinets are solid wood including "custom" high end products. Whenever cabinet hinge screws are installed in a face frame made of MDF, they will loosen and pull out in time. Removing them and reinstalling with a five minute epoxy will hold them tight. The door hold back cups are easy to change and the outside can be made to look like new.

Before you put any miles on the trailer, I would highly recommend that you have the brakes inspected and the wheel bearings repacked.
