I'll have to put in with the "geld by the moon phase" crowd.  My friend from Oklahoma told me about it and I thought it was Bull.  I had mine gelded near the date but didn't wait.  Had some oozing and swelling problems and it almost looked like he wanted to fester.  Friend's horse didn't have a problem.  Next time I will wait.

Knew a vet once that cooked up some Bull testies and took them to a party that was serving exotic meats.Said he held off telling anyone for a few weeks about his Rocky mountain oysters.

Yum, that made me hungry. Love those things!!!

Does anyone know of any scientific studies done to prove this theory?

Think of the thousands of animals castrated every year...statistically, some will be perfect and some will be disasters and the rest will fill in the bell curve...

Also, I guarrantee the is NO COURSE offered in VET SCHOOLS studying the MOONS PHASES...

haha...vet schools also offer almost NO nutrition classes..not that I think there is anything to it either, but you can fill books with what some vets were not taught in school.

Give me a old country vet.  They save me time and money.  They have lots of knowledge that is invaluable.

I have heard of doing it at a time called the "leg of the moon" or something. Never had heard of it before, but we are going to geld my husbands new belgian soon, and connsidering he is between the ages of ten - twelve, he wants to try it. He has been convinced we will never have "studdy" problems out of him afterwards. I told him I didn't care, as long as we don't wait long. We will do it in cold weather.

Hey, how's that for coincidence! OK, consulting the Almanac again ( I usually just call my breeder who keeps up on this stuff, so bear with me) for some reason the Pisces sign indicates in the feet and that will be on the 7th,8th and 9th. There were some good links to try from another forum on when to geld also. I tried Google and really only got links to buy almanacs. Good luck.

I think it is the phase of the moon, dark, full, waxing, waning, that matters. Not the "sign."

Just checked one site.  The 4th - 9th New Moon.  The 10th just beginning to become the First Quarter.  Can not remember which is waxing or waning.  Hoped this helped.

http://www.almanac.com/astronomy/moon/index.php  Used this web site for the moon phases.  Go to page 1 and view IcePonyGoddness.  It is the second web site down.  That is where I got this information and I hope it helps you.
