If you are talking about the awning RAIL, that is what the awning slides into. I always use screws about 1" long, I don't want to hit anything that is behind there. As far as location I mount the rail just at the center of the curve in the top rail, so when you install the awning it will hug real tight against the trailer.

screws for the awning RAIL? i have an awning BAR that came from the factory, it is an aluminum "bar" that is welded to the top of the trailer and it makes the awning sit up higher to clear the doors, but i need to show them a picture of one so he can tell how high he can go with the rail.

Mine has screws also with silicone sealer inside and out. A dab of silicone on the inside on the screw threads will keep them from vibrating and working loose. My trailer does not have the extra awning flat mounting surface welded to the trailer. The awning is mounted up high on the curved radius aluminum piece coming off the roof. The track or rail that the awning slides into is closer to being up on the roof rather than being on the side. Got plenty of clearance for all the doors to open. There is about 4" of clearance from the side excape door cam latch, to the awning when it's rolledup. Never had any trouble with it hitting unless the awning was rolled out and lowered until it was about 3' from the ground. This is on a 7' tall Silver Star Star Lite Supreme 2033MA. No, I don't have any pictures and what HWBar said also.

thnaks so much, the current awning he put on was with pop rivets, should i have him use screws when he re-does this thing? if he stays in the same location i'll have to have the latch handle cut down where it latches in and then i'll have to move the actual cam/latch thingie down about 2"

UNLESS i can talk him into raising it up higher on that awning bar.

If you go to the horse trailers for sale and search the silver star living quarters trailers, you will see several pictures with awnings on them.
