hope i can say that!!! our "new" trailer is turning into a nightmare. i have a question about the awning rails, how long do they come? we had an 18' awning put on and the rail joins right above the entry door and of course it is leaking right there! the man said he could run a calk bead over it, why don't the rails run the length of the awning? next thing is this trailer had an awning bar welded to it at the factory and they put the awning bar down to low and it hits the escape door, my question is how high can the actual awning rail go to the top of the awning bar? boy am i upset, all i wanted was a nice trailer!!!

Take it back to whom ever mounted and point out the screw ups!! Sounds like your dumb %$$ awning guy didn't pay attention to what he was doing. That's the reason for an awning bar....To be able to mount the awning higher so it won't get tagged by the swinging doors. The leak in the rail can be touched up with some clear silicone adhesive. My awnig is 21' and the top rail is in 3-7' pieces, but none of them start and stop over a door.

What is an "awning bar"? I thought that you were talking about the rail, until you mentioned both... The awning installers I've seen always use a "virgin" piece of awning rail that is 21' long, then cut down to fit. No seams or joints. If you have one, yes, silicone is the way to go. The awning co will tell you it is for sun- not rain. So don't be surprised if it trickles through the sewn part of the fabric at times also.

You can get little rain gutters for your awning. They attach on the end and redirect the rain.

There is a little roller than can easily be installed on the top of the escape door that rolls along the awning and will not tear it. Any RV place can put this on for you. Acutally, this is a commom problem with awnings and doors.

the roller will not wor as the door latch is about 2" higher than the awning when the awning is set up with a drop on it. i also thought the awning bar was to raise the awning higher but he says it is as high as it will go. there is about 2" above where the current awning rail is attached so i don't see why it can't go higher, can anyone else?

I think the awning bar she speaks of is a length of aluminum angle, maybe 4"x6" that is welded to the side and roof and runs the length of the trailer making a smooth flat surface to mount the awning on. Actually give you the ability to mount the awning higher than you would if you mounted it directly to the trailers roof radius. I've seen other Silver Star trailers with the same setup. Am I right July?
