Apparently Ford decided to start making their pick up beds deeper....older trailers were unaware this would be a problem ....when the coupler is adjusted out so the trailer will clear the bed rails/tailgate properly...the trailer sits mostly on the back axle...I know Im not the only one with this problem...anybody found a solution (besides a new trailer )....Ive contemplated blocking the axles since that would raise the overall height of the trailer....any thoughts????

It's a usual problem with the trailers being a few model year changes behind the trucks as you know.
The usual solution is a combination of lowering the truck and raising the trailer. I blocked my trailer 3 inches. It makes the step up harder on the horses and my knees. Not to do anything, unduly loads the rear axle and its tires.

it is the primary tow vehicle...and i have contemplated a hauler bed...except i actually use the bed quite a bit too....so I'll have to upgrade trailers before i'd loose the bed....however my brite yellow truck with a chromed out hauler bed would look super sweet.....

Hillsboro Aluminum Truck Beds have side rails you can add if you want to haul stuff you don't want sliding out...

I am thinking about buying a new truck and this situation has me concerned. Are all (Ford, Dodge, nad Chevy) this way? I looked at the 2007 HD 3500 Shootout that Mr Truck did (awesome article by the way) and couldn't find this problem mentioned or addressed. Any input or ideas as to which truck might not have this problem? Thanks

I think it's a bigger problem with 4X4 trucks than with 2 wheel drive ones. I raised a 2003 EXISS 3 inches with blocks (risers/spacer) and gained acceptable bed rail clearance. With torsion axles thats about the max rise you would want to go. with spring axles, you can flip the spring mounts and about double that. Either way, your going to be stepping up higher.
