I just bought my very first slant load ever. I've had a variety of straights, but never a slant. It is a 3 horse with a 5'SW dressing room. I ordered a stud divider on the first stall so I could store stuff up there, and use the rear two stalls for the horses. Will this upset the balance of the trailer? Everything I read says to put the weight over the axles or toward the front of the trailer. If I use the last two stalls (would use the middle if hauling one horse, so no prob there), then will it shift the balance undesirably? Those of you with 3H slants, what stalls do you most frequently use?

I tend to go with the same configuration if I am only hauling two horses.  I put the hay up front.  However, I have a 10' LQ on the front, so the weight should even out.  You can always do trial and error.  Load them up the way you want and take a short trip around the house to see how it handles.  Then shift to the front and see if it makes that much difference.  I had a friend this weekend experience the effect of putting too much on the back.  She was pulling a BP with a Trailblazer and loaded on horse over the axles and the other one was toward the rear.  Apparently, it caused her rig to sway alot.  She moved the other horse (actually pony) up front and had no more troubles.

Thanks for the info. I don't have a LQ so I'm not sure how things would balance out. Guess I'll just have to try it and see. My truck is an F-250, if that makes any difference. Anyone else?

Front stall, stuff, last 2 stalls, horses.  But there is a 10' LQ in front, too.

I am assuming your talking about a GN? If so, I generally put my horse(s) in the 2 or rear stall as the front is used for storage.

You have enough truck to really not have any issues in the loading configuration.

I always put the horses in the last 2 stalls even if I am not carrying stuff in the first stall. My truck dealer told me to put the horses over the axles of the trailer and try and keep as much weight as possible off the truck hitch (GN). I think he called it the KingPin?
