OK, here's the deal.......I want to put a graphic on our trailer, but I need a name. We aren't important horse people, just trail riders. We don't raise or show horses or own a large ranch.  My husband and I have two boys, our last name is Burke, we live in South Dakota basically on the Missouri River. We own 400 acres, but our main income is from "town" jobs. We own 4 Quarter horses and 1 pony. We trail ride although in my former life (as I like to say) I rode cutters, rodeoed and grew up on a ranch. I still have a SD reg. cattle brand, a reverse K attached to a D with a bar over the top. Does anyone have a cool idea?

How about just your brand with the word "Ranch" underneath it? Or your brand with "Burke Ranch".

Or name the ranch after some physical attribute of the land on your ranch, like a creek, or hill, or hollow, or canyon. (Missouri River is probably taken already.)

I have a relative that has the "Eagle Rock Ranch", named after a butte in his pasture named by locals as Eagle Rock. I have other relatives that do not call their ranch anything fancy other than probably their last name, but it could be named after any number of things: Nine Mile Bottom, the historic town of Higbee, the Purgatoire River, etc.

Last weekend I met the owner of the brand below. The brand speaks for itself. See if you can read it. Somewhat funny.

I question the "over", but that is how the owner reads it.

I'm beginning to think that "BrokenBack Ranch" would be a good name for mine.So much to do and no time/$ to do it with.

Sorry about the play on your serious question, just got me to thinking. They do say it's a good idea to put your name on your trailer tho.

Check you local laws.  If you put a ranch name on the trailer it could be considered a commercial vehicle and you would have to have the proper DL and tags.

That is exactly why I didn't put any names on my trailer. Don't want to be consisdered commericial and if you have a name that is what they think.

If there is a name on trailer it is harder to sell and easier to identify if stolen.

Yep. We travel alot on the Natchez Trace to trail rides and the name on the trailer would make it commercial and we would have to take the back roads. May be different in your neck of the woods.

I'm pretty sure that putting a ranch/personal name on a trailer in SD is okay and does not make it a commerical vehicle.

For what reason?Because my insurance company says that any personal ID's on equipment, trailers ect.make them less attractive a target for thieves.

Having your name on your trailer isn't the same as having your ranch name and "for hire" on the rig.Around here everybody has their name on their trailer. We've never had any problem with this, ever.

You could also place a discreet decal on there "Not for Hire" to help designate it as a private trailer.........
