Haven't been to Buffalo but know some folks who have and they really liked it. Trails are rocky so be sure your horses have good shoes. And be prepared for lots of horse and deer flies. They really seem to be bad this year.
Have a great time, be safe and take some pics for us!!

I went back in 6/97 and had a great time- however it rained so much they were afraid of a flash flood and everyone on the bottom section had to move to the top for a couple days - made it really crowded. And the footing on the trails became like thick peanut butter... still had a great time. I don't remember the flies being especially bad, but be prepared for anything. Have a great time

I have just converted to hoof boots and I guess Im going to try them out there. I have the easyboot epic model, I just got them in so Im going to see if they fit tonight or tomarrow and ride them tomarrow, I hope they work out good. From what I have read they will do good. Anyone useing hoof boots??? I know most are against them but I like to try differnet stuff to see what works the best.

I have been using the Easy Boot Epics for about a year now. I really like them and they are much cheaper than shoes and, obviously, less invasive. Don't get me wrong, some of my horses need shoes full time but the ones that have really good feet really benfit from the boots. I found it took some time to get the fit just right. I had to try a couple different sizes. The first time you put the boots on they will be a bit stiff. Whatever you do, DO NOT PULL ON THE GATOR, it will rip right off. I actually had that happen when my horse jerked his foot away from me while I was holding it and it ripped right off. Fortunately, it is replacable as are all of the parts on the boot. You may have to work it up after you get the boot on, but don't use it to pull the boot on. If your horse does not have really good heals, I would recommend cutting down the strap that goes around the back of the boot for the heal. The best way to do that is to take it apart and use a heavy duty sheer to cut it.
I have only lost a boot once when we were cantering through some deep sand and the gator kept it on the horse so I didn't have to hunt for it. Be sure to take a tool along with you when you ride that will allow you to remove the boot easily if you need to for some reason. When the lever on the front is adjusted properly it will be very tight. I have a multi purpose hoof pick/screwdriver/etc tool that packs easily and is strong enough not to bend when I use it to lift up the 'lever' on the front of the boot. I find it best to hook under the cable close to the 'lever' and lift from there. The boot can fit very tight on some horses and can be hard to get off which can be a pain if your horse isn't patient and/or you are not very strong.
If I could use these on all of my horses, I would. They are great. I also have a friend who used the Old Mac's in the Big South Fork and she said they worked great even through the mud.
I hope this helps you. Have a great time on your ride!

I go to the BRTR in June. This WOULD have been my 9th year. Due to the sale of our place and some trailer issues, my girls and I are not going this June. Just cancelled this weel, but will return next year. Yes, they've done some clear cutting. I'm not sure how much. Bring your bathing suit so you can float the river. Be prepared for HEAT!! If it doesn't rain, it's VERY dusty. We've met some great people who return year after year as we have. I'll miss them this year.

Thanks for the input... Im cant wait to go I hope to take a large motorhome but Im not sure at this point what I will be taking. Motorhome, trailer w/LQ or what... I tried my epics the other day and they seemed to fit good but Im having a friend who rides them and does natural trimming come over Wed. to help me out and make sure the fit is indeed good... Since I fairly new with horses I seem to always second guess myself and feel better with a second or somtimes third opinion...

I have site 197 down in the bottoms from what I hear... I think Im taking a 39 foot diesel motorhome with a little 2 horse bp behind. I hope I dont have any trouble getting in and out with such a rig. My friends Im going with said that the last road there is very very very dusty and I should be prepared for a very dirty rig.
