Regarding my problems with my 01 Dodge mentioned in a prior post, I know I should just go out and buy a new 2500 or 3500 diesel, but at the moment, my budget won't handle that size of a payment. I know that an 04 Ford F250 4x4 V10 would be a gas hog, but does anyone have any experience with them, good or bad????.......... I know that Ford has had all sorts of problems with their diesels, but have not heard much about the V-10..................... Any comments good or bad will be helpful.

I have a 99 f-250 4x4 with 154,000+, 5 speed tranny. I get 14-18 city/hwy unloaded, 12-14 loaded 2h Titan with a 7' long wall. I have K&N air filter, custom exhaust, 24# injectors & a few other tricks. I bought it new had to change out the clucth master cyclinder at 144,000 and the #4 coil boot several times. I would buy another.

One of our rigs is an'01 F-250 with a V-10, Ditto what others said about the fuel mileage, right in that 10-12 mpg pulling.  We only have 46K on this rig and have had no problems to speak of.  I'm sure not impressed with the suspension, however.  I added a set of Firestone air bags to the rig to get the rear end up where it should be with a wagon on the hook, but that obviously has nothing to do with the engine.  One thing that I do notice is this, with my powerstroke I can leave my transmission in OD and it does fine, pulls most hills without ever shifting down, but when we run this rig I have to leave the OD off because it wants to downshift into drive on every little hill.  That goes back to the whole torque aguement and Diesel vs. Gasser.  I have heard that some of them had problems blowing spark plugs out of the head when used hard, guess they didn't put enough threads in the head to hold up to the pressure, the way I understand it.  You may want to go to a Ford truck forum and see if you might be able to get a little more information on that problem.  I believe it was just in a certain year or maybe two, then they fixed it.  Someone should be able to give ya the year(s) to look out for.  That's about all I know, good luck and I'll talk to y'all later...

I have an '03 F-350 V-10 and love it. Especially now that diesel is more expensive per gallon than unleaded. I usually get around 10-12mpg hauling an aluminum Exiss S300 with a 4ft SW completely framed out. A couple we travel with pulls their fifth wheel with a F-250 V-10 and they love theirs as well. I and them have not had to put any money into the vehicles with exception to normal upkeep. If you want some more input check out, Ford Trucks EnthusiastsBut be warned, there is quite the on-line battle between V-10 vs. Diesel.
